Efficiency in service delivery:: DTSG organises workshop for school administrators, educators

Delta State Government on Monday December 11,;2023, said consistent capacity building for public secondary school administrators and educators is designed to enhance efficiency in service delivery.

The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, stated this in Ughelli, while declaring open a two-day capacity building/orientation programme for school administrators and senior educators in public secondary schools in Delta State.

The training was organised by the Ministry for 300 secondary school teachers and principals selected from Delta Central and Delta South Senatorial Districts.

Ezewu listed poor science/student ratio, inadequate record keeping, bullying of teachers and students, and inadequate skill development as issues facing education in the state and nation.

The commissioner described education as vital to the development of any society, noting that education remains the fulcrum for human capital development.

She said: “Education is the main instrument through which society acquires knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that enable the population to develop their full potentials.

“This strategic training programme has been put in place by the Ministry to retool and reengineer public secondary schools’ administrators and senior educators in the state.”

She urged the participants to cascade the knowledge gained from the workshop to other staff under their supervision.

Ezewu further said the aim of the workshop was to ensure contributing to quality human capital development that would drive sustainable growth and development in the economy.

“Contributing towards the production of critical mass of educated, skilled, innovative and technologically sound labour force that is competitive, productive and result-oriented.

“Enhancing access to quality education, improving the quality and competences of teachers towards delivery of sound education providing conducive atmosphere for learning and providing veritable teaching platforms for teachers

“It is with this in mind that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori graciously approved this training session which is the first in the series.

“While it is expected that gradually every public school administrator and educator in the state would benefit from similar training, you are expected to cascade the knowledge garnered here to your colleagues.

“We have assembled well qualified resource professionals to walk you through various chosen areas of interests,” she stated.

The seminar was attended by Permanent Secretary Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Samuel Dietake; Zonal Permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board, PPEB, Dr Whiskey Emore, a popular resource person, Dr Charles Apoki and top officials of the Ministry.
