Oborevworis’ EA Media, Chiazor charges Journalists to Shun Tokenism

 

Executive Assistant, Media to the Delta State, Governor Comrade Norbert Chiazor has urged journalists in the state on the urgent need to place a premium on the job and shun every form of tokenism and it likes.

Stating various illustrations, the wordsmith stated that ethical standards and professionalism is what differentiates a journalist from a social media micro blogger and in extension places a premium on the job and not tokenism with a touch of copy and paste.

Comr Chiazor, a former chairman of the Delta state council, Nigerian Union of Journalists, was a guest speaker for the ICC MIRROR platform, where he made these statements before members and executives of Indigenous Correspondent Chapel (ICC) one of the 16 chapels of the Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ Delta State Council this week at its Secretariat.

Chiazor while commending ICC for their unwavering support and dedication to grassroots reporting and development in extention, emphasized that the indispensable nature of journalists in bringing stories from grassroots to the forefront is essential for without them many stories would remain untold.

The erudite speaker haven taken cognizance a fact that the efficacy of journalists cannot be delisted in the sustainable growth of the state, called on the league of professionals in the pen game to play a pivotal role in advocating for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E agenda, aimed at enhancing the development of Delta State.

He who encouraged journalists to leverage social media platforms in combating the spread of fake news and or unbalanced reportage also advised them to constantly run background checks, fact check critiques before bringing them to the spotlight as some or more of these critiques are of personal interest and not the collective good as preached.

He charged journalists to continue supporting Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E as “the Governor is very passionate about us and our work, your work would not be in vain”

Addressing recent financial disbursements by the government, Chiazor clarified the release of 40 billion Naira for retirees’ payments and the approval of 5 billion Naira for civil servants’ promotion arrears.

He also commended Governor Oborevwori for prioritizing the completion of projects initiated by previous administrations, affirming the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

Additionally, Chiazor revealed plans for a journalist training program proposed to the governor’s office, aimed at enhancing journalistic skills and professionalism in the state. He announced the initiation of an award of excellence to recognize and reward hardworking journalists for their contributions to society.
