Nwali Hunts For Glory At 5th Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship
Enoch Nwali, the immediate past African champion has revealed his resolve to be among the top performers at the 5th Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship holding this weekend in Lagos.
The national champion has played his way to success at different championships including the highly entertaining duel with now African King Timilehin Doko at the Ultimate Scrabble Showdown but the soft-spoken Jammer appeared to have slowed down at recent tournaments according to observers.
A peep at the charts of Lekki Scrabble Classics, the African Championship and the recently concluded South-West Opens revealed ‘The Drummer Boy” perhaps, needs to ‘beat’ himself back to his high standards which the JAMSC now presents.
But he was cautious in his aspirations.
Known for his offensive rapid style of play on the board, the 2022 EEAST winner knows that nothing is promised in the playing arena regardless of status just like the art of picking tiles from the tile bag.
“My main objective at the 5th JAMSC will be to give a good account of myself which will mean placing at the top 3 at the end of the event.” Nwali said.
Tayo Ogunseye  reports that among those who will be trudging into the Chevron Recreational Club are his friend and rival Doko, rave of the moment Grand Master John Aiyedun as well as other proven battlers who have titles and perhaps, scars to show for it.
“I need a lot of rest this week,” he admitted “because I have been on the road for the past two weeks upon our return from Kigali, Rwanda.”
Enoch will now prep himself up for prime performance at the big scrabble show starting this Saturday.
Contestants will hurdle through a total of 18 rounds of games where the top winner will go home with 750,000 naira and trophy.
Host Engr. Ebikeme Adowei has placed all cards on the table for another fiesta to be witnessed in the ever exciting Janet Adowei Memorial Scrabble Championship.
