In a recent trending YouTube video around the social media a prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has addressed the troubling case of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who claimed to have received threats after criticizing the current administration.
Speaking passionately on her channel, Yesufu expressed concern over the young woman’s ordeal, describing her as “overwhelmed, distraught, tired—just simply tired.” The activist recounted how the corps member, in her frustration, referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “terrible president.”
“What’s even more ironic,” Yesufu noted, “is that she still called him president, even though Tinubu rigged his way into office. This is someone who is illegitimate, and here she is, giving him that title. And what did she receive in return for expressing her frustrations? Instead of compassion and care, all she got were threats.”
Aisha Yesufu addressed claims made by some individuals who argue that if Peter Obi had been sworn in as President, nothing would have changed.
Challenging this notion, Yesufu stated, “If Peter Obi was the one sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and a citizen released a video like this lady did—literally crying for help, saying she’s tired—you know what? Peter Obi would have invited her to Aso Rock, sat down with her, and explained the things he’s doing. That, I can assure you.”
The activist went on to emphasize that under Obi’s leadership, the young woman would have received empathy and engagement, rather than the threats she reportedly received as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
