Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated immediate past Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and the Delta State APC governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as he clocks 60 on Thursday.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, the Governor said Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central Senatorial District, is an illustrious son of Delta whose accomplishment in life and politics were commendable.

According to him, Omo-Agege gave a good account of himself in the Senate. He commended the former lawmaker who was his main opponent as Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last general election for the infrastructure he attracted to the State, especially the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun.

The Governor said: “On behalf of my family, the Government and people of Delta, I congratulate my dear brother and friend, the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, an illustrious son of Delta, Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, CFR, on the occasion of his 60th birth anniversary.

“As a State, we are happy that while in office, you attracted an institution of higher learning which in few years to come will contribute immensly to employment generation and source of income and livelihood to Deltans and Nigerians.

Fuel subsidy removal: Delta considers investment in electric vehicles

Delta State Government, Thursday, said it may consider investment in electric vehicles for mass transportation to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the citizens.

The State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori stated this shortly after inspection and test-drive of two electric vehicles presented by Ajaere Motors and Jet Motor Company at Government House, Asaba.

He said he was putting up a Committee to be headed by Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu to look into the economic viability and operational sustainability of electric vehicles in Nigeria.

“This is the first time I have the opportunity to drive electric vehicles and you can see that it’s smooth, noiseless and comfortable, and with the way the price of fuel is going up electric vehicles are better at this time because everybody is trying to move away from fuel to save cost.

“The Electric vehicles (E.V) are cheaper; the only thing is that we are still studying this model and we are coming out with our own decision very shortly, to know whether to go in that direction, especially with the present hike in petrol price.

“Everybody is trying to go in that direction. It will also be economical and the good thing about this is that I am putting together a team headed by the Secretary to the State Government, to understudy this and see if it is something the state can do to support the transporters and reduce cost of transportation,” he stated.

Also speaking, Chairman of Jet Motors, Chidi Ajaere said investing in electric vehicles was the way to go considering that the vehicles were eco-friendly and cheaper to manage.

He said future thinking mobility companies are investing in electric vehicles as the cost of transportation has become so high due to rising cost of fuel and maintenance.

Ajaere said: “The Federal Government is already taking the initiative of investing in electric vehicles. We have abundance of sun in Nigeria, so the idea for the Federal Government and the Delta State government is looking into building solar powered charging infrastructure.

“The two biggest cost drivers for transportation is cost of maintenance and cost of fueling but with electric vehicles you eliminate the cost of maintenance and the cost of petrol thereby reducing the cost of transportation by almost 80 percent.

“The life span of the battery is about eight to ten years and the bigger vehicles can do about 300km on a full charge; that’s like moving from Lagos to Ibadan and back to Lagos or from Asaba to Warri and back to Asaba.

“All we need is just the Federal Government building solar charging stations along the way for these vehicles when travelling a longer distance so that when the passengers come down to ease themselves like they usually do, you can plug in your car to charge for some time before continuing your journey.

“In the rainy season, the solar charging infrastructures will have batteries that would store power for these vehicles to charge on gloomy days like this.

“Those stations can also be attached to CNG powered lines to help charge vehicles during the rainy season”.

Former Legislative Leader of Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Princess Josephine Oduaran has disassociated herself from a recent protest by some youths and strongly condemned the protest against the nomination of Hon. NIGER-DELTA YOUTH VANGUARD FOR JUSTICE AND EQUITY *THE OPEN CONSPIRACIES AGAINST OUR LEADER CHIEF JAMES IBORI, OUR POSITION

NIGER-DELTA YOUTH VANGUARD FOR JUSTICE AND EQUITY

*THE OPEN CONSPIRACIES AGAINST OUR LEADER CHIEF JAMES IBORI, OUR POSITION

We are deeply appalled by the continued persecutions of our role model and national leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori by the UK authorities acting in cahoots with some internal enemies of the Niger-Delta who will stop at nothing at betraying anybody in sight for their self-serving, narrow and parochial interests.

We at the Niger-Delta Youth Vanguard for Justice and Equity are very much aware of the grand design by some unscrupulous elements within the political class to see one of the strongest voices of the Niger-Delta struggle completely decimated.

We shall not fold our arms and stand idly to watch this political manipulation that has shamefully taken the full colouration of legal travesty rare its ugly head against a man who has been merely singled out to be a victim of high-wired power play over his steadfast and consistent principles on key political issues

At least, this is the first time we are seeing someone being prosecuted for a second time over the same case for which he has long been wilfully convicted and sentenced.

To say the least, it is most illogical and even legally incongruous to prosecute Chief James Ibori for yet the second time, having being convicted, sentenced and after having long done his time as handed down by the court.
A clear case of double jeopardy with serious undertone at perennially or eternally victimizing and tormenting one man.
The conspiracy theories that has long been touted is getting too loud to be ignored.

It is a common principle in law that he who alleges have the onus of proof.
If Chief James Ibori was prosecuted and sentenced in the UK for laundering monies in their country, so to speak, it is only logical to say that the UK authorities have the full details and know the whereabouts of such funds and must have since placed a lien on them. That means that such funds, if they ever existed, are fully for grab by the UK authorities without Chief James Ibori or anyone else standing on their way. It is theirs for the asking. Q. E. D

Why therefore belabouring a man who should be having a deserved rest and peace to put his life together again after spending grueling years in their captivity over what is already in their possession and custody?

How reasonable is it for you to tell Chief James Ibori to cough out a whopping £101.5million to pay when you have long placed a lien on all that you have purportedly traced to him? Where is he going to get that from and on what basis was that figure arrived at in the first place?

Do you ever in your wildest imagination expect a man to give what he does not have? What a wild goose chase!

If nothing else is behind this, then the mental wellness of Judge Tomlison needs to be subjected to serious clinical interrogations

We at the Niger-Delta Youth Vanguard for Justice and Equity make bold to say that all that are playing out are dirty politics with clear mix of high-wired conspiracy and we caution that it is being taken too far

For the records, the man Chief James Ibori vacated office as Governor close to two decades ago. Since then, he has not occupied any other office and has lived his life very privately since serving out his time in the UK

It is also on record that he has arguably remained the best governor to have run the affairs of Delta State or any state in Nigeria till date as evidenced by myriad of monumental projects he procured for the state while he held sway as governor ; projects that are still standing very tall today after several years of exiting government. Three polytechnics, Colleges of Education, a University Teaching Hospital, College of Health Technology, Massive infrastructural turnaround of Delta State University, monumental bridges, sport stadia, massive rural electrification across the length and breadth of the state to mention but a few. These are projects that were started from the very scratch and which today come across as the only people-oriented projects standing to be counted in the state till date.

We therefore urge the UK authorities in their usual albeit bizarre meddlesomeness to call on the successive governments to account for the deluge of huge allocations that has accrued to the state between 2007 when Chief James Ibori left office and now

Since the UK has inadvertently put on the toga of the undisputed global watchdogs on the internal affairs of nations without restraints , we are calling on them to come and open page by page what transpired in the finances of Delta particularly since Chief Ibori’s exit.

They must investigate and prosecute the massive lootings and the drunken and open plundering of state resources by the successive governments which have barely nothing to show for it. Only then can they be seen as been a fair, honest and objective arbiter.

Oh we just heard somebody say that the Chief James Ibori successors didn’t hide their jaw-breaking loots in the UK for fear of being taken through the tortuous path of Chief James Ibori

We wish to place on record that this whole persecution of Chief James Ibori, a pan Niger-Delta leader, started at the wake of his very vociferous struggle for a better deal for the people of the Niger-Delta region and that was clearly encapsulated in his famous crusade for Resource Control which did not go down well with certain power blocks in the country.
It still remains a well documented fact that he alongside his fellow compatriots including the then Bayelsa Governor, DSP Alamieyesegha were marked for political annihilation and even possible death. All that happened around DSP Alamieyesegha is still very fresh in our memories.

The gimmicks , the intrigues, the smear and slandering, the blackmails, the humiliations , the betrayal, the conspiracies and gang-ups by kinsmen he was supposedly fighting for and all that happened that culminated in his eventual but unfortunate passage will never be swept away for years to come. DSP ALAMIEYESEGHA sure lives on and will continue to have his pride of place in our hall of fame.

Chief James Ibori being the last man standing must never be allowed to fall under the satanic forces of those unforgiven conspirators with their perennial vested interests and whose only business is to continue to milk the God-given resources of the Niger-Delta dry and mortgage our future to eternity. No matter how much support they enjoy from those sellouts within the Niger-Delta, they shall be stoutly and roundly resisted with the last drop of our blood. Chief James Ibori must be left alone and allowed to live his peaceful life. Enough is enough this moment
The Obasanjos of this world who continues to adorn the full apparel of a saint yet squandered a whopping, mind-bungling $16billion on power and yet Nigeria has continued to remain the darkest nation on earth ever since should hear this . He and his co-travellers including beneficiaries turned traducers back home should steer clear now or we will react further in the fiercest manner no one can imagine

We have all been around in this country for a while and nobody, we repeat nobody especially those within the political class should come out here to say he is as saintly as the angels.

While not in condonation of any act of corruption, this sustained satanic politics against Chief James Ibori must be halted now and now.
He did not do anything differently from those who have been accused of one corruption allegation or the other in this country. There have been plethora of cases where far more huge sums are involved and non have taken these concocted international/global dimensions.

Chief James Ibori is human and we are not here to crave perfection for him
We are only here to let the whole world know that he is a victim of a monstrous power-play of the Nigerian state

We further wish to state that so far in our chequered history as a people, Chief James Ibori has effortlessly come across as one of the most selfless leaders whose indelible imprints in infrastructural renaissance of Delta state and the struggle for a better deal for the Niger Delta region can never be wished away by anyone including those who will stop at nothing in tormenting him for their selfish personal gain

God bless Chief James Ibori

God bless the Niger-Delta region

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Gov Mbah rolls out Palliative, inaugurates petrol subsidy palliative committee

Gov. Peter Mbah says his government has rolled out palliatives to mitigate the economic hardship fuelled by President Bola Tinubu’s petrol subsidy removal.

The governor disclosed this on Monday in Enugu while inaugurating a committee for procuring, storing and distributing relief items to Enugu residents.

He charged committee members, chaired by Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, to handle the palliatives with transparency while ensuring the speedy distribution of the items to those in dire need.

Also, committee members include the chairman of the Association of Local Governments in Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu, the chairman of Nkanu East council area, Okechukwu Edeh. ALGON deputy chairman and chairman of Uzo Uwani LGA, Chukwudi Nnadozie, chairman of Awgu LGA, Pedro Nwankwo and Enugu East LGA chair Livinus Anike.

Others are the special adviser to the governor on agriculture, Mike Ogbuekwe, programme manager of Enugu State Agricultural Development Programme (ENADEP), Ogbonna Onyeisi, and the head of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Chinasa Mbah.

Mr Mbah, who acknowledged the harsh impact of the fuel subsidy on the people, further said that the subsidy removal would immensely benefit Nigerians in the long run.

While maintaining that he shared Nigerians’ pains, Mr Mbah hoped the palliatives would help alleviate their hardships. He also urged the committee to spare no time in ensuring that the palliatives were sent to “homes of those that need them the most in the state.”

The Enugu governor said, “You recall that a few months ago, the federal government of Nigeria removed the fuel subsidy. And as you know, that came with pains, shared pains, even though we believe in the long run, it will be beneficial to the country. The question for us now as leaders is, how do we mitigate those shared pains that our people are going to be exposed to?”

He added, “It is part of what we are doing to see how we can begin to cushion the effects of some of these pains. So, what we are doing now is to see how to fix the pains people are going through, and there are also plans for short and medium-term solutions, and that we are going to do in due course.”

The governor further charged the committee to ensure that the palliatives got to the people who deserved it and that it was distributed quickly and transparently.

Bonga Oil Spill: CBOSIC Threatens Occupation Of SPDC Platforms In The High Sea, Over Non-Payment Of Compensation

Indigenes of Concerned Bonga Oil Spill and Impacted Communities, CBOSIC, have vowed to occupy Shell Petroleum Developed Company, SPDC platforms in the high sea, over the company’s perceived refusal to pay them $3,600,191,206.00 as damages for the spill that occurred December 20, 2011 in Bonga Communities, across Bayelsa and Delta States.

This online newspaper reports that the fresh threat by CBOSIC, was handed down today, Monday July 31, during a peaceful protest staged in front of SPDC Ogunu Operational Office in Warri, Delta State.

A Cross Section of the Protesters at SPDC gate

The protesters, who marched from Elf Road, down to SPDC Main Gate at Ogunu, Warri, carried banners/placards with the inscriptions, such as: “Shell our land is polluted”, ” No fish in our rivers again ” “Shell, stop polluting our land”, “Shell clean up our environment”, “Shell Group Oil Defies International Best Practice-Pay Bonga oil Spill Compensation Now”, “Shell Group Worse of IOCs in Nigeria”, “Shell stop your evil practice on us” and “Shell must clean up, remediate and restore our land “.

The threat, was in furtherance of the push being championed by the Oil Spill Victims’ Vanguard, OSPIVV, which has been challenging SPDC on the matter in a UK Court.

The Lead Claimant/Executive Director of Oil Spill Victims’ Vanguard, OSPIVV, Prince Harrison Jalla, has been in the forefront of the struggle since 2011 when the devastating Spill occurred.

Speaking to newsmen during the peaceful protest, an Environmental Right Activist, Prince Hosanna Jalagho-Williams, said SPDC was liable to pay the Concerned Oil Spill Impacted Communities, CBOSIC the sum of $3.2b or $6.2b compensations.

Prince Jalogho Williams, accused SPDC of conniving with some top officials of the federal government, to reap the people of their compensation, saying they are giving SPDC 14 days from Monday July 31, to meet their demand or they will shutdown the company’s platforms in the high sea and other major operational facilities within CBOSIC in the Niger Delta.

According to him, SPDC operations, have brought health challenges to the people of the Niger Delta, resulting in “pregnant women giving birth to deformed children, due to inhaling of harmful gaseous substances.”

The Chairman of Bonga Oil Spill Impacted Communities, Mike Tiemo, vowed that the protest would continue, until they occupy SPDC platforms, saying whereas SPDC complied in similar situations in Gulf of Mexico and other American coasts, the company remains defiant when it comes to the demand by CBOSIC.

Two women in the affected communities, Comfort Yaye and Beauty Prebor, who spoke in the same vein, urged SPDC to pay the compensation or get ready for disruption of their operations.

Recall that the Concerned Bonga Oil Communities, had in a letter dated May 20, 2023 and addressed to the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, stated: “The Shell group, has been a curse for decades to the environment and people of the Niger-Delta. From Ogoni to Escravos, Forcados and Bayelsa. It has been tales of woe in oil exploration, without a human face. The Shell group has been the most detested amongst the IOCs in Nigeria and the weakest link in terms of relationship with their host communities.”

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, the apex maritime regulatory body relating to safety, security and the protection of the Nations’ Marine environment, reportedly slammed $6.5 Billion on the Shell group, as a result of the Bonga oil spill.

Oborevwori, Obaseki Celebrate Idahosa At 80

The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and his Edo State counterpart, Mr Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday, felicitated Archbishop Margaret Idahosa as she clocked 80 years.

They spoke at a thanksgiving service held in her honour at the Church of God Mission convention ground, the Balm of Gilead, Benin City, Edo State.

Oborevwori said that he was happy to celebrate with Idahosa on her 80th birthday.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, prophetically declared that Idahosa would live up to 150 years so that the Christian family and humanity would continue to tap from the grace of God upon her.

“Greetings from the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; he has sent me to specially come and congratulate you on your 80th birthday anniversary celebration.
