Breaking: ‘CHEVRON DRAGNET’, Bursts Pipelines along Olero-Dibi-Abiteye Fields in Delta

**Vows to continue if Chevron continue to play unholy politics to host communities request

The Niger Delta Liberation Movement, NDLM, popularly known as MOVEMENT, says it burst several pipelines along the Olero-Dibi-Abiteye Fields/Flow stations at about 2:00 am, Friday November 22, describing the damage as the launch of ‘Operation CHEVRON DRAGNET’.

The blast pipelines, which are 6 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches in diameter, transport various petroleum products, such as natural gas and crude.

The Secretary of NDLM, Mr. Emmanuel Tagbanaraewumi, in a syndicated press statement this afternoon, declared: “These multiple blasts, is the start of the operations code-named CHEVRON DRAGNET. We promise a shocker as we vow to continue to hit facilities used for crude oil exploration activities in the whole of Warri areas, till Chevron does the needful as this is just the beginning of operation CHEVRON DRAGNET.”

Mr. Tagbanaraewumi, added: “It would be recalled several host communities and organizations from the Itsekiri extraction, had called upon Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to make available their employment quota in the firm’s ongoing recruitment scheme, but to no avail.

“We had earlier made demands for the unconditional conversion of VTP5/OTP2 and VTP6 amongst others and these demands were not attended to.

“The MOVEMENT is bringing to the notice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Chevron in particular, that we are in support of these calls and therefore announce the launch of an operation CHEVRON DRAGNET.

“The operation CHEVRON DRAGNET, has become unavoidable, because Chevron had refused to listen to her host communities and organizations from the Itsekiri extraction, calling for the implementation of Local Content Law and allocate to her the rightful quarter of the ongoing Chevron Nigeria Limited recruitment by a consulting firm known as dragnet.

“Recall how we claimed responsibility for several attacks against oil facilities in the Warri area since July 2023. Our biggest feast, was the Dibi to Olero Gas Line Blast at Junction 19 on June 18, 2024.

“Through the disruption of all oil exploration activity, we pledge to communicate with Chevron in their own language.

“We will not provide any ultimatum or timeline for the operations, as was evident in our previous press statements.

“As long as Chevron decides to keep mute and play unholy politics with the request from the host communities and organizations of the Itsekiri nation, we vow to support and back these calls with the language Chevron will understand.”

Allegations of oil theft/Economic sabotage: Group tells Presidenti Tinubu to remove CNS, Ogalla urgently

Allegations of oil theft/Economic sabotage: Group tells Presidenti Tinubu to remove CNS, Ogalla urgently

The Arewa Peoples’ Assembly has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to remove Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff due to allegations of oil theft and economic sabotage.

The Nigerian Navy has been accused of colluding with criminals to steal crude oil in the Niger Delta, hindering the country’s economic growth.

Admiral Ogalla, appointed by President Tinubu in June 2023, has been criticized for failing to address the Navy’s involvement in oil theft.

In the letter to the President signed by Alhaji Auta Balarabe ( Coordinator) and Mallam Basir Gowon ( Director of Orientation and Mobilisation), the Arewa Peoples’ Assembly claimed that under the leadership of Admiral Ogalla, the Navy has compromised its constitutional mandate to protect the nation’s maritime domain.

According to the group, Navy’s involvement in oil theft undermines its ability to safeguard Nigeria’s maritime environment.

The Arewa Peoples’ Assembly therefore demanded the immediate sacking of Admiral Ogalla citing his failure to address the Navy’s involvement in oil theft and they advocated for a change in leadership and a thorough overhaul of the Navy’s structure to ensure accountability and reforms.

They wrote; “We, the Arewa Peoples’ Assembly, at a special session of its council held on the 20th November 2024 and given your bold commitment to reverse the down turns confronting the nations economy through your well intended reforms write from Kaduna, to bring to your attention the unparalleled and unpardonable acts of criminal sabotage foisted by men of the Nigerian Navy who brazenly collude with criminals to steal crude oil in the Niger Delta”.

They said that despite celebrating the milestone of the nascent 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd), Nigeria’s oil production would have toppled the projected 2mbpd target if the Nigerian Navy had complemented the efforts of the adhoc private security organisation saddled to monitor and protect the nation’s pipelines infrastructures.

“Recently, the media was awash with statements credited to Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private security firm involved in oil pipelines surveillance and protection, of the subterranean and complicitous activities of the Nigerian Navy’s involvement in crude oil theft and acts of maritime terrorism and national economic sabotage’, they wrote.

The group added that; “We are further inclined to believe Chief Ekpemupolo because we have become aware of his sense of patriotism deployed in comprehensive security, reporting and management platforms, workspace and extended cloud environment to follow up on this nefarious activities of the Nigerian Navy”.

Here Is The Full Open Letter By The Arewa People’s Assembly To President Tinubu:

OPEN LETTER TO HIS EXCELLENCY, ASIWAJU BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC AND COMMANDER – IN – CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA TO IMMEDIATELY REMOVE ADMIRAL EMMANUEL OGALLA AS CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF-

OIL THEFT AND ECONOMIC SABOTAGE: A CASE OF SUBVERSION, DOUBLE STANDARD, COMPLICIT DUPLICITY AND THEFT AGAINST NIGERIA ABLY AIDED BY THE TOP ECHELON OF THE NIGERIAN NAVY.

We, the Arewa Peoples’ Assembly, at a special session of its council held on the 20th November 2024 and given your bold commitment to reverse the down turns confronting the nations economy through your well intended reforms write from Kaduna, to bring to your attention the unparalleled and unpardonable acts of criminal sabotage foisted by men of the Nigerian Navy who brazenly collude with criminals to steal crude oil in the Niger Delta.

We are constrained to write to you as a counter to the ideas enunciated in the geo political North South one way globalisation rationality which holds that problems that affect the south hemisphere do not become mankind’s global problem until they also affect the north and pose a danger to societal order”

The sense of corporate existence promotes the idea that Nigeria functions as a dynamic and multi jointed machine system with various moving parts attached to a central operating device that are linked in many significant ways.

It is therefore in the interest and sanctity of the North to insist that the Nigerian Navy’s continued effort to sustain the fight against crude oil theft have become visibly compromised and undermined.

It is important your Excellency to state that given the oil and gas performance indexes as presently constituted, the Nigeria’s hydrocarbon resources sector account for 55% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 95% of its export earnings.

Despite celebrating the milestone of the nascent 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd), Nigeria’s oil production would have toppled the projected 2mbpd target if the Nigerian Navy had complemented the efforts of the adhoc private security organisation saddled to monitor and protect the nation’s pipelines infrastructures.

The headwinds necessitating the present economic woes are still very much palpable and given the intelligence available to us, the spotlight is on the Nigerian Navy’s involvement in crude oil syndicalism.

Recently, the media was awash with statements credited to Chief Government Ekpemupolo, aka, Tompolo, Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a private security firm involved in oil pipelines surveillance and protection, of the subterranean and complicitous activities of the Nigerian Navy’s involvement in crude oil theft and acts of maritime terrorism and national economic sabotage.

He cited instances where the Nigerian Navy operatives had stalled the arrest of oil thieves and provided security cover for illegal oil activities in the Niger Delta. He has equally asserted and we verily that the Nigerian Navy under the watch of its highest command echelon, funds a big business criminal enterprise which provides reins to unregistered, nondescript illegal vessels to traverse their criminal trade on the nation’s territorial waters.
This is antithetical to the Nigerian Navy’s constitutional mandate of protecting the nation’s maritime domain.

We are further inclined to believe Chief Ekpemupolo because we have become aware of his sense of patriotism deployed in comprehensive security, reporting and management platforms, workspace and extended cloud environment to follow up on this nefarious activities of the Nigerian Navy.

With his private security service factory operated by a dispersed, capable workforces of highly skilled specialists collaborating with digital technologies, it is possible to see this act of sabotage against the government of Nigeria.

It is also imperative to mention that before this present Navy leadership, the Navy had in the past recorded several successes in combating maritime crimes, feats that were globally acknowledged. These include the recovery of stolen oil and the delisting of Nigeria from the list of piracy-prone countries by the International Maritime Bureau. But since the present Naval leadership assumed survey of our territorial waters they seem to be inspired by a different predisposition.

We are further fully aware that several national and international financial organizations, including the World Bank have emphasized the need for Nigeria to increase its OPEC contributory quotas, in order for it to earn forex to grow its ailing economy, and this can’t happen by assumptions but by improved security on all maritime corridors leading to the nation’s oil assets.

RELIEFS SOUGHT

That the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces of Nigeria should immediately be aware that the activities of the Nigerian Navy, the nation’s flagship of protecting our territorial waters are at variance with his outlined renewed Hope agenda.

– That it is not impossible that this activity of the nigerian navy is targeted at frustrating Your Excellency’s effort to pull this nation from the economic woes many dark years of plunder of her national resources has plunged her.

– That the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla be removed from his offices as he presently looks unwilling to combat the criminal forces that seek to coral the nations territorial waters to enchain it.

– That a multi-faceted approach is required to optimise oil and gas security which must include enhancing inter-agency collaboration, increased transparency, and direct line of communications beteeen the Navy and the private surveillance and monitoring efforts.

– Beyond the change of gaurd requested for the Navy there is the immediate need to overhaul the nigerian navy architecture as it would seem it has deviated ftom its core functions and professionalism.

– As this nation navigates these challenging times – it is essential to prioritize reforms and accountability over sentiments and harbouring those whose mission statement are at cross purposes with the national interest.

In the circumstances, Your Excellency is requested to further direct in the matter

Fresh tension in Edo state over Edo Central Senatorial Ticket

Fresh tension in Edo state over Edo Central Senatorial Ticket

***Esan group petitions Okpebholo, Ganduje, alleges plot to impose Henry Okojie

***Describes Henry Okojie as notorious blackmailer

*Asks Ganduje, Okpebholo to distance selves from Henry Okojie

Barely two months after the gubernatorial election in Edo State, fresh tension has engulfed the state over the anticipated senatorial election in Edo Central Senatorial District to pick the successor to the state’s Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the Senate.

Okpebholo represented Edo Central Senatorial District on the banner of the governing party, All Progressives Congress (APC) before his election as of the state.

Already, intensive manoeuvring and intrigues over the replacement of the governor in the Senate have begun within the major political parties, especially APC.

In the governing party, no fewer than 12 aspirants are jostling for consideration for the ticket of APC.

To this end, tongues are wagging in APC in Edo State over alleged plot by the National Chairman of APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Okpebholo to impose Mr. Odianosen Henry Okojie, as candidate of the party in the election.

Okojie currently represents Esan North East and Esan South East Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Okojie was reported to be mobilising his contacts in Abuja, particularly in the Presidency, to prevail on Ganduje and Okpebholo to circumvent the processes by imposing him as the candidate of the party.

Okojie was also reported to be boastful of his contacts in Abuja to fetch him the ticket, by sidetraccking intra-party election which is expected to throw up a popular and credible candidate to fly the banner of the party.

Worried by the tension being generated by the plot to impose Okojie on members of APC in Edo Central, a pressure group, Esan Renaissance Movement (ERM), has petitioned Ganduje and Okpebholo, on the festering issue.

The group, in a statement, issued on Thursday, fingered the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila and Minister of Interior, Mr. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, as sponsors and promoters of Okojie.

The group in the state ment signed by its President, Agbonkhese Osezua and Secretary, Napoleon Ironosen, warned Gbajabiamila and Tunji-Ojo to steer clear and refrain from manipulating the processes leading to the choice of candidate for the senatorial election.

ERM advised Ganduje and Okpebholo not to succumb to intimidation and blackmail by Gbajabiamila and Tunji-Ojo to secure free passage for Okojie into the Senate.

The group said they have profiled all APC members jostling to replace the governor in the Senate, adding that Okojie was the least qualified among them.

The petitioners said he was unfit and unsuitable to pick a seat in the Senate on behalf of Edo senatorial district, insisting that he has failed to justify the mandate given to him to represent Esan North East and Esan South East in the House of Representatives.

According to the group, Okojie was docile and timid in the House, with no record of an impact ful representation of his constituents in the 10th Assembly.

The group pointedly accused Okojie of deploying weapons of blackmail and intimidation in pursuit of personal and selfish agenda for financial gains in his 18 months sojourn in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Consequently, the group urged the national leadership of the ruling party to be wary of given tacit support to Okojie, adding that he was not viable candidate to win a senatorial contest.

It also warned Governor Okpebholo to distance himself from Okojie in order to sustain his credibility and warm himself into the psyche of the people of Esanland.

The group said further in the statement, “Odianosen Henry Okojie lacks the credibility to fly the ticket of APC for a senatorial election. What has he achieved with the current made given to him to represent Esan North East and Esan South East Constituency in the House of Representatives? Absolutely nothing.”

“How many bills has he sponsored and how many motions has he moved in the past 18 months? Odianosen Henry Okojie is a sleeping representative of Esan North East and Esan South East Constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives. He should not be given a free ticket to take a seat in the Senate to sleep and whenever he is awake, he would be busy pursuing a selfish agenda to enrich himself.”

“The roles played by Odianosen Henry Okojie and his co-traveller, Ikenga Ugochinyere in the Aliko Dangote/NNPCL debacle is still very fresh in our memories. In tandem with their antics of blackmail and intimidation, they took money to take side with Dangote in the Ad-hoc Committeeassignment, a sad development which led to the dissolution of the Ad-hoc committee headed by Ugochinyere, with Henry Okojie, as a member.”

“That is the job Odianosen Henry Okojie is doing in Abuja, he is not representing Esan North East and Esan South East Constituency but representing only himself. He is not a fit, competent and suitable person to represent us in the Senate. We have a pool of qualified and credible individuals, who can take our seat in the Senate. Odianosen Henry Okojie should stay in the House and complete his present assignment of using the instrumentality of his chairmanship of the House Commitee on Petroleum Resources (Midstream) to continue to blackmail the management of NNPCL for illicit wealth.”

“We seize this medium to plead with the Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila and Minister of Interior, Mr. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, to allow the members of APC in Edo Central to freely elect their candidate for the upcoming senatorial election. It’s not right for forces outside Edo State to always fix and give directions to our political journeys. They should please allow us to fix this. We can produce a credible candidate in a primary election. The candidature of Odianosen Henry Okojie cannot deliver Edo Central Senatorial District to the APC.”

In conclusion, we also urge the indefatigable National Chairman of APC not to succumb to pressures by Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila and Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to impose Odianosen Henry Okojie on members of APC in Edo Central Senatorial District. And the people’s Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, whose take off has received widespread accolades should sustain his legitimacy and tempo of his acceptability by our people by distancing himself from Odianosen Henry Okojie,” the statement added.

Osoza to Media Practitioners: Engage in objective critical assessment of government policies, shown propaganda

Osoza to Media Practitioners: Engage in objective critical assessment of government policies, shown propaganda

**As Dr. Ashibuogwu trains DOPF members on SEO, Others

Delta state commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has called on media practitioners to engage in objective and critical assessment of government policies and programs as opposed to criticisms laced with propaganda and misleading half-truths.

Dr. Osuoza made the call on Tuesday during the media training session organised by members of Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) at the conference room of the state ministry of information.

Represented by permanent secretary of the ministry,…., Dr. Osuoza said members of the forum should give a chance to ministry officials to make input to reports that have bearing to the state government and its policies.

The commissioner who appreciated members of the forum for informing Deltans and the global community on the activities of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, also commended the forum for showing willingness to publicise activities and programs of the Oborevwori’s government.

He told the online publishers that the government of Sheriff Oborevwori will always appreciate good journalism in accordance with best global practices, rather than cut-and-paste journalism that employ the services of artificial intelligence which encourages unethical misdemeanors.

Dr. Osuoza said the training session with the theme: “SEO, AI and Security in Online News Publishing: A Swiss Knife for Online Publishers,” is germane, given the emerging trend and sophistication in the online journalism business.

The information commissioner said that the engagement and application of Search Engine Optimisations (SEO) and AI platforms has become a crucial skill for ensuring that contents are packaged to give clarity and fluidity.

Amidst the benefits derivable from online journalism, the commissioner expressed sadness over the growth of libelous and deliberately misleading information as well as the contractual engagement of online practitioners to persecute and blackmail personalities.

He said “the evil in this unwholesome and nefarious type of journalism is that some online publishers, for reasons best known to them, are putting pressure on their readers by manipulating narratives to convince them to believe allegations as convictions, against those that these allegations are made against.

“The best ethical journalism practice forbids and opposes this and it is up to the professional journalists in the online publishing community to continue to serve as conventional watchdogs of society and protect the bastion of sound and responsible journalism that the founding fathers of the trade professed and left behind as a legacy by ensuring objectivity and factual reportage.”

The commissioner called on leadership of DOPF to “evolve ways of sanctioning members who are engaged in pedestrian, unprofessional practice, outright propaganda, and yellow journalism.”

The session featured special training on the application of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the use of artificial intelligence tools to boost clarity of language and enhance visibility on the global online space.

The training session was handled by Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, a renowned publisher of Quick News Africa, based in Lagos Nigeria.

Ekpemupolo accuses Nigerian Navy of Aiding, Abetting Crude Oil Theft

Ekpemupolo accuses Nigerian Navy of Aiding, Abetting Crude Oil Theft

***As NBA hails Tantita over attainment of 1.8mbpd, promises collaboration

Ex-militant leader in the Niger Delta, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has accused the Nigerian Navy of frustrating the war against crude oil theft in the region.

Ekpemupolo fingered the Navy of aiding and abetting crude oil theft and other sharp practices associated with petrol products in the oil-rich rich region, adding that the Navy was collaborating and encouraging illegal oil barons to sabotage the nation’s economy.

Receiving the national executive of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), led by its National President,.Mazi Afam Osigwe (SAN), at Oporoza, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday, Ekpemupolo, said the Navy was operating at cross-purpose with other state actors and private security outfit saddled with the surveillance over the nation’s economic assets in the Niger Delta.

He told his bewildered visitors that operatives of the Nigerian Navy were colluding with criminal elements to steal the nation’s oil wealth for pecuniary benefits.

Ekpemupolo, who is the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), one of the private security outfits hired by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to curb the menace of crude oil theft, reeled out instances in which the operatives of the Navy had stalled the arrest of oil thieves at various creeks of the Niger Delta.

He said the operatives freely provide and offer security cover and protection for the oil thieves in the course of their nefarious activities.

He lamented that the operatives of the Nigerian Navy openly confronted their counterparts from other security agencies and men of the private security companies in desperation to secure passage for the oil thieves.

This development, he further lamented constituted a cog in the wheel of progress in the war against sabotage of the nation’s economic assets.

He said, “While doing this work, we have stepped on a lot of toes of people over there in Lagos and Abuja. Most times, you see that Tantita Security Services now have engage in open confrontation with the Nigerian Navy, which has refused to cooperate with us in the war against crude oil theft. The Navy is working at cross purposes with other government and private security agencies saddled with the responsibility to curb illegal oil bunkering. The Navy is aiding and abetting these criminals to continue to sabotage the nation’s economy. In fact, the Nigerian Navy is frustrating us. The operatives of the Navy are colluding and collaborating with these criminals to swindle the nation. The operatives are neck deep in the menace of oil bunkering. They are making it difficult for us to win the war.”

“Just few days ago, men of Tantita Security Services intercepted a vessel carrying stolen crude oil in Port-Harcourt, the personnel of the Nigerian Navy provided escort duties onboard the vessel. The Navy personnel onboard the vessel and others speedily mobilised to the scene with gunboats and other equipment, opened fire on our men and officials of civil defence corp and DSS, who insisted that the vessel cannot sail further.”

The Naval personnel eventually prevailed due to their superior firepower, to secure passage for the vessel.”

“Similar situation occurred at Ovwian community in Delta State, recently, when Naval personnel also overpowered and subdued Tantita operatives to secure safe passage for another vessels carrying stolen crude. The cases of involvement of Naval personnel in oil theft are too many to recount here.”

“Every well-meaning Nigerian knows the function of Nigerian Navy and Tantita now, but nobody wants to come out to face the truth. The Nigerian Navy we support to safeguard the nation’s maritime assets has sacrificed its constitutional obligation for pecuniary benefits,” Ekpemupolo lamented.

Ekpomukpolo didn’t also spare the NBA, adding that its members make their services available to arrested oil thieves.

He added, “If we happen to arrest anybody now, we would get a lawyer from Abuja, Lagos or Ibadan, to deploy all legal nuances to secure freedom for the criminal.”

“We want to implore and beg members of NBA, you have a duty to play in this present situation because if we are not careful in this country, maybe we would not have money to do any reasonable thing. All of us here know that Nigeria is facing hardship.”

“We are going to do our part locally. But you are there at the top. If we arrest today, lawyers would stand on the other side and this side. What I want to appeal is that you need to help us. If somebody is coming to load a vessel of 500 metric tonnes, in this community, nobody has that capacity to embark on such job here, the person comes from either Lagos or neighbouring countries or Abuja.”

“An hungry man here, who is serving as an errand boy to the barons, is the one that would be arrested.”

However, despite the challenges, Ekpemupolo assured that Tantita would collaborate with other patriotic bodies to ensure steady rise in the production of crude oil.

He congratulated all stakeholders who made the recent attachment of 1.8mbpd production of crude oil possible and assured that that Tantita would spare no efforts to ensure that 2mbpd of crude oil was attained by December, 2023.

In his response, Osigwe, hailed Tantita and other stakeholders on the attainment of 1.8m barrels of crude oil per day.

He promised that the NBA would collaborate with Tantita and other stakeholders to stamp out the menace of crude oil theft in the region.

Osigwe explained the mission
NBA in the area, adding that “our branches in the oil bearing areas should be interested in the issues of oil theft which goes on in many communities because it has affected our national economy and also impacted negatively in the ability of government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.”

“It has also impacted negatively on our foreign reserves. It has adversely affected Nigeria’s ability to meet its minimum OPEC quarter for oil production. We felt that the matter should be taken seriously.”

“We thought that it would be a good place for us to come first to get first-hand knowledge of how this battle has been fought, and what the challenges approached, and how the fight has helped improve the Nigerian economic standing. And after our NEC meeting we heard the big announcement by the NNPCL CEO that oil production for the first time in many years, risen to 1.8mbpd with the hope of rising to about 2 million barrel per day by December. And we thought that this is very important because in the last few years, Nigeria has been borrowing to fund the budget, borrowing to pay salaries and execute projects”, he added.

According to him also; “And our understanding of the economy, is that if the country earns more from oil which we produce, we would be able to borrow less and the government will be able to do some of the developmental activities and put infrastructures in place as expected.

We also thought to take this visit as an opportunity to see the impact of oil exploration in the environment of the oil bearing communities in the Niger Delta of Nigeria. And also see in what ways, these communities which form the wealth base of the nation have benefitted from oil exploration activities and how the oil exploration has negatively impacted these communities.”

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will go all out for victory against Rwanda on Monday, even with leadership of group D and a ticket to the 35th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco secured, says Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen.

The three-time African champions are determined to sustain their recent form and spirit ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that resume in four months, and Coach Augustine Eguavoen believes the absence of grieving goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defender Olaoluwa Aina and in-form forward Ademola Lookman will not stop their momentum.

First-choice goalkeeper Nwabali has been excused from camp to visit family and relations following the demise of his father, and English Premier League side Nottingham Forest begged for wing-back Olaoluwa Aina to be allowed to fly back to the United Kingdom for a crucial tie, with Nigeria already qualified for the AFCON.

Rapid-raider Ademola Lookman, with two goals in the qualifiers like team mate Victor Osimhen, suffered a knock in the front end of this window’s double-header, against Benin Republic’s Cheetahs in Abidjan on Thursday, and left camp on Saturday.

The Super Eagles are not unaware of the fact that the Amavubi are in the same 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group with them, and that they (Rwanda) are the next opponents when the World Cup qualifying campaign resumes in March 2025.

Monday’s encounter will see the return of former number one safe hands Maduka Okoye, and Bright Osayi-Samuel could start at right wing-back in the absence of Aina, with Bruno Onyemaechi at left wing-back, and Captain William Ekong and Calvin Bassey at centre-back.

Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Raphael Onyedika are still the options in the middle.

Victor Osimhen, whose goal earned the one point in Abidjan that took Nigeria to the top of the pool, will hope to score against the Amavubi, having come quite close a number of times when he joined the fray as a second-half substitute in Kigali in September. He also has the target of overtaking former captain Olusegun Odegbami on the goals’ tally for Nigeria.

The absence of Lookman means so much will be expected from fit-fighting and usually-dependable Moses Simon, with Samuel Chukwueze, Sadiq Umar, Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Boniface all in the race for slots in the fore.
