CAFWCL: Edo Queens Beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 To Qualify For Semifinals

CAFWCL: Edo Queens Beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 To Qualify For Semifinals

Nigeria’s Women Premier League champions Edo Queens, Saturday evening produced an incredible performance as they came from behind to beat African champions Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the final Group B game of the ongoing CAF Women Champions League to qualify for the Semifinals of the tournament in Casablanca, Morocco.

Nigeria’s representatives Edo Queens having qualified as Group B leader will be facing TP Mazembe of Tanzania in the semifinals clash on Tuesday

It looked like the Edo Girls were on their way back to Nigeria when the South Africans were still leading by a lone goal at 93 minutes of the game before Emem Essien and Mary Mamudu came to the rescue with late equalizer and subsequent winning goal in the extra time.

Emem Essien scored the equalizing goal for Edo Queens in the 95th minute to cancel M. Kgatiete’s 24th minute goal.
The equalizer was enough for the Nigerians to sail through to the semifinals but their hard work ensured a turnaround as Mary Mamudu found the back of the net with a sublime strike five minutes later to condemn the defending champions.

The Nigeria Women Premier League champions, Edo Queens began the tournament in Morocco with a 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia with Emem Essien , Folashade Ijamilusi and Goodness Osigwe scoring for the Queens. They settled for a goalless draw in their second match with Masar FC of Egypt before the final group game in which they demystified the defending champions 2-1.

Reactions Pour as Eguavoen Denies Attributing Stalemated Result Against Benin Republic to a Torrential Rain

Reactions Pour as Eguavoen Denies Attributing Stalemated Result Against Benin Republic to a Torrential Rain

By: Sunday Agunbiade (Mr VAR)

Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has refuted a purported claim that he admitted his one all draw against Cheetahs of Benin in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, held at the Felix Houphuet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on torrential rain in Abidjan.

Though, Eagles struggled to get their opponents between their hands on Thursday but the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation said he never blamed it all on the rain.

The former Super Eagles Captain stated this in Nigeria leading Sports WhatsApp group, *Sports World Platform* on Friday while reacting to series of reactions buzzing on the Administrators ridden group. The Edo State born tactician said at no time he made such comment with any journalist

In his response on the group, member of the 1994 African Cup of Nations winners said:

“Good afternoon Honourable members of this esteemed group. I follow and read alot of comments posted by individuals, and I have never responded for once.
I think is time to say something.

“At the post match conference yesterday, no one talked about weather, please ask Modo Victor”

“He was there live.
Now someone is saying Eguavoen blames the rain for the result when we didn’t talk about weather.
Many people are not fair to me.”
“You all have a great day”. He clarified

Super Eagles recorded a one all draw with the Cheetahs after Tijani put the Benin Republic in front with a magical 81st minute header from Victor Osinhen to save Nigeria from another defeat against Benin Republic at the same venue where The Cheetahs had beaten them 2-1 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers earlier this year.

However, reactions continue to trail the reaction of the Eagles handler as members of the popular group nearly went berserk with the journalist. While some call for regulation on fake news, some advised Eguavoen to stay focused. Here are few of the reactions:

Sunday Okechukwu

“Coach, do your best and leave the rest for God.

Stay focused Nnam.

With God on your side World Cup ticket is ours in Jesus name 🙏

Pius Idoko

“Coach you have done well for this team and for Nigeria. The least anyone should do now is to pledge their unalloyed support for the progress of the team going forward, if at all they have the good of Nigerian Football in their hearts.

Take your flowers, you have done well coach🙏

Barrister Kelechi Nweke

“A pity … That’s how some journalists concocted ‘stories’ of what Coach Finidi said or did not say against Victor Osihmen……. without any shred of evidence

Which prompted Osihmen to embark on a public rant against George Finidi…..his elder brother”.

Sunday Agunbiade

“Coach Austin Eguavoen. Big apologies on that Sir. But, sincerely, some journalists erroneously captured it and made it their headline and thus makes it look as if you said it .

Anyway, personally, I had reservations for it as I listened to your post match reactions and could not decipher such comments coming from you ,reason why I declined comments since.

Going forward, I think the what is important is that you have qualified the Super Eagles for the African biggest fiesta with two matches to spare and it has been added to your CV sir.

Criticism in whichever form is always there but saying what a coach did not say is highly unethical and the author should be sanctioned by the authority concerned (SWAN)

Once again, huge apologies to our legendary Coach Austin Cerezo Sir

Tobechukwu (Tobexsports)

“A lot of journos deceiving themselves they are journos here, senior man.
Take all comments, criticism, and praises as a tonic for shock absorbers.
Nigerians rarely get satisfied with anything , in victory and qualification, they still seek loopholes and blames.

Soar higher 🙌🏻

Oladele Gbajumo

People misuse social media. Crazy.”

Nonso Arinzechi

“In as much as many were not happy with the team’s display yesterday (including me) and this is due to the same issues that have been outlined for a very long time in the super Eagles. It’s like it’s never going away. I think the Journalism job in Nigeria needs a proper clean house or Sanitization. The journalism Trade should be Hallowed and built on Facts and not emotions. Please keep your head high Sir but remember there is a lot of work to be Done ahead of the AFCON Proper especially the movements of the players without the ball. I have and will always be ur Supporter.
More Wins. Cheers 🥂.”

Mohammed Saliu

“I knew it was a lie.

You see, they don’t know what to bank on and spoil his efforts again; even as they try harder, he keeps on moving.

Some Nigerians are funny, a coach that qualifies the Super Eagles team for Afcon before two matches to be played, many are still looking for what to bring him down.

We would destroy our own and praise mediocrity because of skin colour; later, we would be shouting racism, racism, if one of our players is being subjected to racist abuse. Meanwhile, we do worse than that to our brother. Too bad!

Kayode

“Cerezo, I appreciate your coming out this time to point out this misinformation. What is more, in spite of your indignation, you use very courteous words yet your message was passed well and heavily. Let me appreciate the fact that in spite of your business schedule, you create time to “follow and read a lot of of comments posted by individuals…” on this platform. I’m aware you just arrived back to Nigeria today, yet you took time to still follow through on this platform. All members of this platform should appreciate this, one by one. You indeed add more credibility to the platform. Having said this, even though i wasn’t there, i believe you really didn’t say so. Even if you have said so, you could be right. Anybody who is versed in football would know that when it rains, the bigger team suffers and at disadvantage more than the underdog. ”

This is a clarion call to all journalists to stop writing fictions. They can go and join Nollywood. May i apologise to Austin Eguavon to please take it as a mistake and continue to have faith in the platform and the project (i.e Nigerian football).

Nigeria and 14 other African countries have sealed their place at the next African cup of Nations in Morocco.

TANTITA: We remain committed to attainment of over 2million bpd

TANTITA: We remain committed to attainment of over 2million bpd

**As Encomiums pour in for NNPCL, TANTITA, other critical stakeholders over crude oil production hitting 1.8 million bpd, gas’ 7. 4billion Scfd

Encomiums have been pouring in for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and a private security outfit, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) as the nation’s crude oil production hit 1.8 millions barrels per day (1.8m bpd)

The board and management of NNPCL, which announced the feat on Thursday, also disclosed that gas production has also risen to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4bscfd).

Stakeholders have hailed NNPCL and private security agencies hired to safeguard the nation’s economic assets, especially Tantita, for achieving the feat.

Tantita has lately led a relentless war against crude oil theft and pipelines’ vandalism, pursing oil thieves out of the nation’s coastal environment as well as seizing and confiscating their equipment of illicit trade.

It was gathered that most of the oil thieves abandoned the nefarious business in the wake of the onslaught and ceaseless heat by the operatives of Tantita security services positioned in the coastal axis of the Niger Delta.

These collaborative efforts with other state actors significantly contributed to the latest rise in the quantum of production of crude and gas resources.

It was gathered that Tantita has initiated clampdown measures to keep the oil thieves at bay with a view to realising 2million bpd of crude oil production by the end of December, in conjuction with other industry stakeholders.

NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Mele Kyari, who announced this at a press briefing on Thursday November said the feat was achieved in compliance with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Kyari congratulated the Production War Room Team that anchored the production recovery process.

“The team has done a great job in driving this project of not just production recovery but also escalating production to expected levels that are in the short and long terms acceptable to our shareholders based on the mandates that we have from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari stated.

Giving details of the efforts of the Production War Room, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lawal Musa, said the feat was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as government and private security agencies.

He said the interventions that led to the recovery of production cut across every segment of the production chain, with security agencies closely monitoring the pipelines.

He stressed that when the Production War Room team was inaugurated on the 25th of June 2024, production was at 1.430 mbpd, but the team swung into action, culminating in it sustaining the production recovery to 1.7 mbpd in August and hitting the current 1.808 mbpd in November.

“We are confident that with this same momentum and with the active collaboration of all stakeholders, especially on the security front, we can see the possibility of getting to 2MBPD by the end of the year,” he added.

It will be recalled that the Chairman of TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo,
while speaking during an award bestowed on him by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), promised to ensure that the daily crude oil production output continued to increase and boost the nation’s revenue.

“The only place I have to call my country is Nigeria, so I will do everything within my powers to see that crude oil production increases.”

Reacting to the latest feat yesterday, Tompolo, said he was excited to be part of the success story.

Tompolo, who spoke through his Special Adviser Media and Public Communication, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, said Tantita was committed to the realisation of 2mbp by December as directed by President Tinubu.

Tompolo said, “This milestone, as you know, was achieved in collaboration with NNPCL, security forces and of course, Tantita, which has been at the forefront of oil pipelines protection in the Niger Delta . We are determined to take it to 2mbpd before the year runs out as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

“All the needed machinery has been put in place to ensure that the target is achieved. No effort will be spared to ensure that the economy of Nigeria is galvanised.”

“This will lead to a boost in government’s revenue, thereby making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively. I am assuring you that we are not going to rest on our oars until the target is achieved and even exceeded.”

“New technologies were being deployed to monitor the facilities with a view to ensuring that there won’t be any disruption and that the theft of Nigeria’s commonwealth is halted.”

“So the 1.8mbpd that it has got to, certainly by the end of the year, by God’s grace, we will work to get it to 2mbpd and even exceed. We are working towards that,” Tompolo assured through Bebenimibo.

Stakeholders hail NNPCL’s board over Eyesan, Ajiya Sack, say sack long over due

Stakeholders hail NNPCL’s board over Eyesan, Ajiya Sack, say sack long over due

There was unusual jubilation at the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Company limited ( NNPCL), on Thursday, over the sack of the Executive Vice President(Upstream ) Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan and the Chief Financial Officer, Umar Ajiya.

The Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), on Wednesday night, expelled the duo in a management shake- up and consequently appointed their replacements.

The sacked officers have roundly been accused of being a clog in the wheel of progress and believed to be antagonistic to the leadership of the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, Engineer Mele Kyari .

The staffers of NNPCL, who, were seen discussing the development in groups noted that the board acted swiftly to save the company from the antics of the sacked officers.

It will be recalled that the sacked officers had been on a collision course with Kyari, in what was seen as power tussle .

Eyesan and Ajiya were engaged in unholy moves to unseat and replace Kyari.

Rather than working collaboratively to achieve the set goals of the company, Eyesan and Ajiya engaged in unsavoury activities to sabotage and discredit Kyari in grandplan to plot his disgraceful exit from office.

The new appointment, according to NNPCL’s spokesman Olufemi Soneye, was to reflect the continued dedication to enhancing corporate governance, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring long-term success in Nigeria’s energy sector.

In the new dispensation as announced by Soneye, Mr. Adedapo Segun replaced Ajiya while Udobong Ntia, was appointed to succeed the embattled Eyesan.

Many employees of NNPCL were in joyous mood on Thursday when the report of the sack of duo was made public.

They described their sack “as long overdue.”

“The Executive Vice President (Upstream), NNPCL, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan and the Chief Financial officer of the company, Umar Ajiya, have long constituted a nuisance in the wheel of progress of NNPCL. Instead of them to work in synergy with other board members to achieve the goals set for the company by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they are pre-oocupied with intrigues to ease out the GCEO, Engineer Mele Kyari and take over from him.”

“They are not interested in the discharge of the duties of their offices but daily engage in activities to bring Mele Kyari into disrepute and pull down the roof. Two of them are just after Kyari’s office, which has not been declared vacant by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who solely has the power to hire and fire our GCEO.”

“They opposed major policy decisions aimed at achieving far-reaching results at the board meeting just to ensure that the board and management of the company fail in their endeavours. So, it’s a good development that they have been asked to go eventually.”

“We thank the board for this courageous and bold move, which would consequently generate positive outcome. We are excited about their disgraceful exit, which is long overdue. It’s a good radiance to bad rubbish.”

“We are overjoyed. The company can now move forward in all its patriotic endeavours in aid of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” one of the elated workers of NNPCL excited stated in Abuja on Thursday.

Similarly, Niger Delta and industry stakeholders have also welcomed the exit of Eyesan and Ajiya from the board of NNPCL.

With their exit, various stakeholders were unanimous that NNPCL’s could henceforth move in steady progression to achieve set goals and objectives.

They lamented the delay in booting out the duo from the board of the strategic board.

A senior member of staff in one International Oil Company (IOC), who pleaded that his name should not be mentioned in print, said, “We applaud the removal of these guys from the board of NNPCL. Their sack would ensure ease of doing business in the oil industry.”

“These two guys have negatively impacted the board because of their antagonistic tendencies and deliberate attempts to pull down the roof. With their presence on the board, NNPCL find it difficult to push through in vital business decisions. It’s a good thing that they have been pushed out. The board of NNPCL can heave a sigh of relief and move forward with the new numbers of the board, who are expected to tow progressive path,” the oil worker, who didn’t want his name in print, stated.

In their reactions, various Niger Delta stakeholders and groups, also hailed the board of NNPCL for weeding out Eyesan and Ajiya.

Spokesman of Niger Delta Consultative Assembly (NDCA), Sylvester Utuedon, described the sack of Eyesan and Ajiya as “bold and courageous.”

“In 2025, we propose to spend N230 billion on Road Infrastructure; N67.42 billion on Education; Health will gulp N30.55 billion; Water Resources N11.03 billion and Agriculture, N7 billion.”

Government Oborevwori appealed for the speedy passage of the appropriation bill by the lawmakers.

In his remarks, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the state had witnessed unprecedented development due to the Governor’s pragmatic style of governance and commended the Governor for continuing and completing inherited projects from previous administration.

He lauded Governor Oborevwori for his fiscal discipline and ensuring value for money which he epitomised in returning over N500m to the state coffers while serving as Speaker and for saving over N14bn for Local Government Councils across the state.

He called on the Governor to institutionalise pre-budget planning parley between the Executive and the Legislature to help balance priorities within available resources.

The Speaker urged all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government to cooperate with the Committees of the House during the budget defence sessions to ensure seamless consideration and timely passage of the budget.
