Just In: Wind blow off NAF, Police CTU Bases Power supply cable to feeder transformer in Delta

**As BEDC shutdown Jeddo, Ughoton, Ugbokodo, Omadino other towns into darkness

By: Celestine Ukah

Unexpected wind some days ago blow off the 33KVA power supply network supplying power to the Transformer of the 320 Forward Operation Base of the Nigeria Air force Quarters in Jeddo, Okpe LGA and that of Police Counter Terrorism Unit Base 5 as well as other users feeding from the transformer.

This newspaper can authoritatively report that the wind which caused the damage was noticed Friday by our source who was around the area Sunday March 24_ 2024.

Due go the pull off from the network the operational company, Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC Warri Business District in charge of the routine power sharing in the area have jacked down the main control point without making any effort to fix the disconnected power line to feed back the NAF 320 Forward Operation Base and Police CTU transformer respectively.

According to findings BEDC have also taking advantage of the situation to sustain plunging of Jeddo, Ugbokodo, Ughoton, Omadino and Obodo into perpetual darkness as they not shown any concern of attempt to immediately fix the wire that the wind tactically removed from the network but not totally removed or damaged.

Residents from the affected communities and towns which cuts across Okpe Local Government and Warri South LGAs are calling on BEDC to live up to their responsibilities and as a matter of urgency to immediately go and fix back the affected transformer and restore general power supply along the network in the area.

Okuama killings: “Just shut up if you have nothing good to say about N’Delta region”, Zik Gbemre blasts Rtd. Gen. Olarewaju

Okuama killings: “Just shut up if you have nothing good to say about N’Delta region”, Zik Gbemre blasts Rtd. Gen. Olarewaju

A Social Critic in the oil rich Niger Delta Region Zik Gbemre has blasted Rtd General Tajudeen Olanrewaju over his comment linking the killing of Soldiers in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State to oil bunkering and implored him to just shut up if he had nothing good to say about the Region.

According to the Social Critic, the ex-General must be hallucinating, describing his comment as diversionary, childish and bias and made it clear that Okuama Community has no oil and gas assets.

In a recent statement, Major-General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retired) had come under fire for his comments on the need for enhanced military presence in the Niger-Delta region, particularly in Delta State, to protect crude oil and gas assets. He emphasized on military solutions and infrastructure development has been labeled as “childish bias” and “ignorance” by critics.

He advocated for the deployment of constitutionally recognized military institutions to safeguard the region’s resources, drawing parallels with models employed in countries like India and Venezuela and stressed the importance of protecting crude oil zones, platforms, and offshore assets through new strategic policies and laws.

But Zik Gbemre, has pointed out that Olanrewaju’s proposal lacks a crucial element of inclusivity and community engagement. He argued that the retired general focuses solely on resource protection without addressing the issue of empowering and involving the local communities in the management and operation of oil and gas assets.

He held out that of particular concern is the underrepresentation of natives from oil-producing communities in decision-making roles within oil companies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The Social Critic questioned the ownership and operational control of oil and gas assets in Delta State, highlighting the need for greater inclusion of educated young natives in key positions within the industry.

Zik Gbemre called for a more comprehensive approach that not only focuses on security but also addresses the socioeconomic development and participation of indigenous people in the industry, adding that the failure to prioritize the employment and empowerment of local community members in the oil and gas sector has raised questions about the fairness and equity of resource management in the region.

“The question to Olanrewaju is, who owns most of oil and gas assets? Who operates the oil & gas assets in the Delta state? Agreed few violent militants are given multi-billion surveillance contracts to safe guard the oil and gas assets? Who are the illegal bunkerers?

“You, Tajudeen Olanrewaju, talked about military guarding assets without the security and welfare of the natives. All you are interested is the mining and production of the natural resources of the people. How many of our young educated locals/natives that are working in NNPCL and the oil companies apart from operations support jobs, surveillance jobs, gate keeping jobs, grass cutting and house keeping jobs?

“My experience regarding marginalisation of the natives of the land where these crude oil and gas are being produced in my home town of Iwhrekan community in Ughelli South is bad, very bad. The oil companies apply ‘divide and rule’.

“I know of a simple catering contract by a native of my community that was terminated because someone who is a stranger is interested in it. Most of the military officers they post to man oil installations are contractors of oil companies in collaboration with personnel to cheat on the locals. Who are the big illegal bunkerers? They are connected to the military officers and security operatives,” Gbemre said.

Zik Gbemre also raised serious allegations against the military, accusing them of aiding and abetting illegal bunkering activities instead of safeguarding oil and gas pipelines and facilities. The activist, who played a key role in combating illegal bunkering in the Utorogu Assets Right of Way Pipeline in Ughelli South LGA, described what goes on in the region as a culture of corruption and collaboration between security operatives, politicians, and oil companies in the region.

According to the Social Critic, efforts to combat illegal bunkering were met with resistance from some military officers stationed in Delta State, who allegedly sought to profit from illicit activities rather than uphold the law. He highlighted instances of intimidation and divide-and-rule tactics employed by certain entities to undermine his work in protecting oil assets and preventing environmental degradation.

He expressed pride in his voluntary efforts to safeguard the environment and oil resources in Delta State, emphasizing the need for sincerity and transparency in addressing the root causes of illegal bunkering. He pointed to a lack of inclusive employment practices in the oil and gas sector, with key decision-making roles often filled by individuals from outside the local communities.

Zik Gbemre also directed his criticism at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and oil and gas regulators based in Lagos and Abuja for overlooking the employment of local natives in the industry and instead favoring the relocation of personnel from other regions. He questioned the fairness of such practices and warned that attempts to deploy military forces to suppress dissent and secure oil assets through force would only exacerbate tensions and lead to further conflict.

“As debates over the role of the military in the Niger-Delta region intensify, concerns have been raised about the need for genuine dialogue, community engagement, and sustainable solutions to address the socioeconomic challenges and environmental degradation plaguing the area. Calls for accountability and inclusive practices in the oil and gas sector continue to resonate among local residents and activists seeking lasting peace and prosperity in the region”, he said.

“If Major-General Olanrewaju has nothing to say then he should keep silent. He should advise his brother President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withdraw his army of occupation from Okuama community in Ughelli South LGA of Delta. Burning down of the Okuama community will further heat up the already tensed environment.

“You can’t use petrol to quench fire rather than it will increase the fire. Killing of Okuama Community locals should stop and let them build peace in Okuama community. No person is talking of the illegal invitation of the soldiers to Okuama that were killed? No person is talking of the burnt down community houses of Okuama by Soldiers.

“No one is talking of Okuama people that are being killed. No person is talking of displacement of Okuama locals. No one is talking of those who invited soldiers to Okuama. No person is talking how to provide relief materials, medicines and shelters to the innocent locals who are displaced from their home village.

“What peace mission are the military referring to? What peace mission is Major- General Tajudeen Olanrewaju referring to?

“As narrated by Michael Egi in online statement,” The Nigerian Army are available for rent at the right price for wealthy individuals. They go on these private missions on the cover or uniform of their service. One of the military officers killed in Okuama Major Obi is the Platoon Commander in Utorogu Gas Plant, sent there to guard the plant, but rented himself and some members of his platoon out on an illegal private mission to Okuama community of Ughelli South LGA.

“These soldiers were not on officially assignment at Okuama. Their official assignment was Utorogu Gas Plant.”

“The military shouldn’t mixed up the killings in Okuama to illegal bunkering. Okuama has no oil and gas assets. It is embarrassing that President Tinubu has not visited Okuama community to see for self the level of destruction by the soldiers in Okuama community in Ughelli South LGA of Delta state.

“Major-General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (retired) statement is a ploy to divert from the burning issues at Okuama community in Ughelli South. It is aimed to twist the killings in Okuama community to illegal bunkering. What has illegal bunkering got to do with the killings and burning down entire village of Okuama?

“This propaganda of connecting Illegal bunkering to the killings of soldiers, killing of Okuama community locals and burning down of the entire community must stop,” Zik Gbemre stated further.

Delta Peace Building Counci bemoans Okuama Killings

Delta Peace Building Counci bemoans Okuama Killings

The Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council (DSA&PBC) has expressed uneqivocal condemnation of the killing of Nigerian Army officers and soldiers at Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the State.

The Council, at its meeting on Thursday 21st March 2024 at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, presided over by its Chairman, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, also expressed condolences to the Nigerian Army authority, the Presidency, the families of the dead officers and soldiers, and to the Government of Delta State for the very unnecesssry colossal loss of lives.

In its resolution at the end of the meeting, the DSA & PBC commended the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his timely responses to what it termed the very sad, complex and sorrowful situation.

In the resolution signed by Prof Sam Oyovbaire, the DSA & PBC said: “As an institution with excellent credentials of advocacy, commitment and activism for the promotion, sustenance and advancement of peace building and conflict resolution, Council re-affirms its dedication to the course and quick process of return to peace and stable livelihood in Okuama and in all other communities afflicted by this unfortunate development.

“Council empathised very strongly with the people of Okuama and all our other communities in Delta and Balyesa states the unfortunate and horrible experiences of suffering and losses.”

The Council urged relevant authorities to fish out the masterminds of the heinous crime with a view to bringing them to justice.

It said: “The perptrators of the criminally bestial killing of the Army officers and soldiers must be apprehended and be duly prosecuted. There must be no hiding locations for these criminals.

“In the mean time, Council calls upon the relevant authorities especially the Nigerian Army and the Presidency to open up all access to the affected communities for uninhibited and safe flow of movement and return by those who fled their homesteads for fear of further afflictions.

“The siege to the communities should be dismantled so as to also facilitate independent observations, investigations and provision of humanitarian assistance to the needy dwellers for peaceful livelihood.”

Yoruba Group Odua integrity Network knocks Rtd. General Olanrewaju for linking of private security surveillance contractors to Killing of 16 Military personnel in Delta

Yoruba Group Odua integrity Network knocks Rtd. General Olanrewaju for linking of private security surveillance contractors to Killing of 16 Military personnel in Delta

A Yoruba Group, O’Odua Integrity Network (OIN) has rained heavy knocks on Rtd. Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju over his statement linking private security surveillance contractors to the killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State

The OIN accused him of fronting for oil Barons in the country, wondering why a 78-year made himself available for dirty jobs.

The Group in a Statement Signed by Chief Adewale Adeosun (President) and Mr Ige Kilanko ( Secretary), said that brutal killing of officers and soldiers of the 181 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Bomadi, Delta State, elicited shock amongst citizens of this nation, saying an incident of its type has not been witnessed, nor thought of, since the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua granted Niger Delta youths Presidential Amnesty over a decade ago.

According to the Group; “Therefore, the last week spine- chilling occurrence in Okuama, Delta State, was most abhorrent. May the Lord grant each of the fallen soldiers eternal peace, and their families the fortitude to bear huge loss. The incident has generated so much discourse across the country. In the list, is the press statement of 78-year old retired Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju Rtd, of March 21, 2024”.

The OIN said if it was for commiseration with the Nigerian Army and families of the slain soldiers, it would have been glossed over like others, adding that; “After all, the military is his primary constituency”.

“But the old soldier, in the Press statement purportedly issued by his Media office, titled, “NON-STATE ACTORS PROTECTING OIL INSTALLATIONS POLITICALLY, ECONOMICALLY UNSAFE FOR NIGERIA, dovetailed into areas he has since lost expertise. His knowledge of security matters has long flagged after many years in retirement”, the group said.

While raining heavy knocks on him, the group stated that; “In hurry to discharge the job he was hired to deliver, the retired general said constitutionally recognised military institutions should be positioned and equipped to do the job through specially-trained and strategically built forces like it’s done in India and Venezuela”.

According to the group, the ex-General poured venoms on the operators of private surveillance security providers hired by the Federal Government to safeguard the nation’s oil and gas equipment, labelling them as militants, thugs and hoodlums, who are not different from bandits.

The OIN noted that having read this widely circulated press statement, as a Yoruba group familiar with the genesis of the enlistment of the private security providers for the tasks of safeguarding our national assets, they believed that the ex-General should be enlightened and educated on the matter.

They said that their response also became expedient because as a Yoruba group, they are bothered about the public conduct and utterances of their leaders, adding that; “Ex-Gen Tajudeen Olanrewaju in pouring the unwarranted venoms displayed arrant ignorance and exhibited unpardonable ignorance unexpected of a Yoruba man, with his level of accomplishment. We are constrained to disagree with him and clear the air over his needless vituperations”.

The Group wondered where was the Retired General when former President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR decided to hire private security companies to keep surveillance over Federal Government owned oil assets.

Below Is The Full Statement From The Yoruba Group O’Odua Integrity Network (OIN):

OKUAMA KILLING OF 181 BRIGADE SOLDIERS: RTD MAJOR GENERAL TAJUDEEN OLANREWAJU UNSOLICITED MISREPRESENTATION OF PRIVATE SECURITY OIL PIPELINES SURVEILLANCE

*WHY WOULD A 78-YEAR OLD MAKE HIMSELF AVAILABLE FOR DIRTY JOBS?

The brutal killing of officers and soldiers of the 181 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Bomadi, Delta State, elicited shock amongst citizens of this nation. An incident of its type hasn’t been witnessed, nor thought of, since the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua granted Niger Delta youths Presidential Amnesty over a decade ago.

Therefore, the last week spine- chilling occurrence in Okuama, Delta State, was most abhorrent.

May the Lord grant each of the fallen soldiers eternal peace, and their families the fortitude to bear huge loss.

The incident has generated so much discourse across the country.

In the list, is the press statement of 78-year old retired Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju Rtd, of March 21, 2024.

If it was for commiseration with the Nigerian Army and families of the slain soldiers, it would have been glossed over like others.

After all, the military is his primary constituency.

But the old soldier, in the Press statement purportedly issued by his Media office, titled, “NON-STATE ACTORS PROTECTING OIL INSTALLATIONS POLITICALLY, ECONOMICALLY UNSAFE FOR NIGERIA, dovetailed into areas he has since lost expertise.

His knowledge of security matters has long flagged after many years in retirement.

In hurry to discharge the job he was hired to deliver, the retired general said constitionally recognisedmilitary institutions should be positioned and equipped to do the job through specially-trained and strategically built forces like it’s done in India and Venezuela.

He poured venoms on the operators of private surveillance security providers hired by the Federal Government to safeguard the nation’s oil and gas equipment, labelling them as militants, thugs and hoodlums, who are not different from bandits.

Having read this widely circulated press statement, as a Yoruba group familiar with the genesis of the enlistment of the private security providers for the tasks of safeguarding our national assets, we believed that the ex-General should be enlightened and educated on the matter.

Our response also became expedient because as a Yoruba group, we are bothered about the public conduct and utterances of our leaders. Ex-Gen Tajudeen Olanrewaju in pouring the unwarranted venoms displayed arrant ignorance and exhibited unpardonable ignorance unexpected of a Yoruba man, with his level of accomplishment. We are constrained to disagree with him and clear the air over his needless vituperations.

Where was the Retired General when former President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR decided to hire private security companies to keep surveillance over Federal Government owned oil assets?

Is it a different military the nation had then, than it has now?

What prompted the former President Muhammadu Buhari to look outside the Nigerian Armed Forces to seek help for the protection oil pipelines?

Has the prevailing situation changed?

We do not need knowledge of rocket science to throw light on the matter.

The Armed Forces failed to live up to their duties. Right under their noses crude oil thieves took over the nation’s oil production.

The government lost its major source of foreign exchange earnings. Nigeria could barely produced 600,000 barrels per day, from its over 2.5 million barrels OPEC allotted quota.

The government couldn’t live up to its responsibility to citizens.

It went cap in hand in search of foreign loans.

Where was General Olanrewaju, when Buhari needed advice?

The old general’s tirades against private security firms surveillance of crude oil pipelines, because of the Okuama slaughter of soldiers is unsolicited. It doesn’t resonate.

The killing of officers and soldiers of the 181 Brigade, Bomadi, has no nexus with pipelines surveillance.

General Olanrewaju smelt a rat where there is non.

Does the communal feud between Okuama and Okoloba communities has any connection with crude oil theft, or pipelines surveillance contracts? No!

The retired General could not help with advise when President Buhari required it. The General must being on another planet when Buhari was pushed to the wall over oil theft.

Today, through the efforts of the private security companies, crude production has climbed to over 1.7 million barrels per day.

The last report on the economy of the nation showed external foreign reserves of Nigeria has reached $34 Billion.

People other than the military rescued the situation.

The press statement of General Olanrewaju had diluted intentions than meet the eyes. The local oil thieves and their international backers whose criminal activities were dealt crippling blows by the private security companies, have latched on the Okuama killings to raise their ugly heads once again.

How else would one see it, other than, the old soldier is being hired by criminal oil barons or those failed contractors , in their bid to secure same pipelines contracts to clear the way for them to resume the plunder of the nation’s crude.

As a retired general and elder statesman, Tajudeen Olanrewaju’s contribution to national discourse could be weighty. He should not make himself a fly in the ointment of the nation. He should not take the country on tortuous journey back to Egypt.

General Olanrewaju should take a closer look at those prodding him to take a centre stage with his unprofitable advise and suggestions to the government. He should not front for criminals with his well earned reputation, else he becomes an economic saboteur.

The non state actors or private security companies he criticized have received commendations for their success in ridding the nation’s waterways of illegal bunkerers, not only from Mr. President, but also from the Nigerian Army and National Assembly. Even the Nigerian Navy has finally accepted them as worthy associates.

Has the general not heard of all these?

What he didn’t add to his press release is whether the soldiers were killed by the private security contractors. Communal clashes occur everywhere across the country. There was one bloody one in Osun State recently, was it perpetrated by Pipelines security contractors?

These oil thieves are criminals indeed. Otherwise, why would they dust up a Yoruba leader in the person of an outstanding military officer like ex- General Tajudeen Olanrewaju to sacrifice his reputation and muster his contacts to ease out private security operators in an unpatriotic desire to return the country to the dark days when the oil thieves held the country by the jugular.

If the ex-General Olanrewaju must know, newspapers’ reports are awashed with revelations that one of the notorious oil bunkerers that he’s labouring to return to the centre stage of the criminal business is being wanted by the military in connection with the killings of the solders.

It’s sad that instead of our revered General Olanrewaju to condemn the killings of the soldiers and join other well-meaning stakeholders to call for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, he wilfully veered of the matters on hands by seizing the opportunity to serve his benefactors – the oil thieves.

He should be ignored in totality.

As young Yoruba folks, we are still dazed and amazed over what would compel a 78-year old dabble into this festering issue. Is it a case of hunger and deprivation?

Is he broke to the extent that he couldn’t pay his bills, a tempting situation that made him to be cheaply available to desperate oil buccaneers, who found his reputation attractive readily hired him to clear the way for the resumption of their illicit business of economic sabotage?

If it’s a case of senility or hallucination, commonly associated with persons in his age bracket, where are the children, who should be on his surveillance at this critical stage of his life?

It’s uncomplimentary that he would fall to the bait of crumbs from the table of the oil thieves to serve their purposes.

The retired General should recline in his armchair and play with his grandchildren and enjoy his pension.

He shouldn’t dabble into issues he can barely comprehend, especially pipelines protection matters that never exist while was in active service.

And if he is still strong on his feet, he should go to the golf course to while away his time with friends.

After all, old soldiers never die, they only fade away.

The retired General has long lost his bearings on security matters.

OKUAMA: DOPF extends Condolences and Calls for Transparency, Accountability in the Wake of Tragic Losses

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) extends its heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army and Okuama Community, following the gruesome and devastating loss of lives in recent tragic and unfortunate incidents.

The heinous killing of 17 military personnel and the subsequent collateral damages which has consumed numerous civilians in a frenzy of reprisal attacks, deeply saddens and diminishes us all as humans.

As we seek swift justice for the gallant fallen heroes, we equally emphasize the importance of upholding rules of engagement and established judicial procedures, especially as defined in Democratic systems.

With Nigeria not in a state of war or widespread civil unrest, it is imperative that operations prioritize citizen rights and safety.

We urge immediate dialogue between government authorities and the military to facilitate access to Okuama Community for humanitarian assessment and aid distribution.

Additionally, a thorough investigation into the remote and attendant causes of the Okuama conflict, as already directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, must necessarily include alleged cases of extra-judicial killings during military operations, which will not only be crucial to uphold justice and maintain public trust, but will hopefully also serve as a watershed reference in addressing subsequent brewing conflicts of similar symptomatic indices across the country.

Our thoughts are with the military and Okuama Community during this difficult time. Let us unite in our commitment to integrity, accountability, and respect for human rights for the betterment of our nation.

Sincerely,

Abia Assembly Scraps Life Pension For Ikpeazu, other former governors

Abia Assembly Scraps Life Pension For Ikpeazu, other former governors

**As governor Otti signs Bill into law with immediate effect

A move to cut down the cost of governance in Abia State has hit new milestones as the bill to repeal former governors and deputy governors’ pensions and other entitlements has been passed by the State Assembly.

By implication, former governors like Okezie Ikpeazu, T.A. Orji and Orji Uzor Kalu will no longer earn their pensions and other entitlements.

By implication, former governors like Okezie Ikpeazu, T.A. Orji and Orji Uzor Kalu will no longer earn their pensions and other entitlements.

But the bill is subject to the approval of the State Governor, Alex Otti and the governor has immediately signed the bill into law.

The development was revealed by the House Member Representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Uchenna Okoro shortly after the plenary on Tuesday.

The bill, ‘H.A.B 11: a Bill for a Law to Repeal the Abia State Governors & Deputy Governors Pensions Law No 4 of 2001 and for other Matters’ was sponsored by the member representing Arochukwu State Constituency, Kalu.

The bill which scaled first, second and third readings aims at removing ‘outrageous’ spending on retired governors and their deputies by the State.

The lawmaker who was delighted with the passage of the bill said it was in line with the agenda of Governor Otti-led government to reduce the cost of governance in the state.

In an interview with THE WHISTLER, Kalu explained that there are pensioners who spent years serving the state who are still struggling to receive their pensions while former governors enjoy entitlements worth billions monthly.

Kalu said, “We did not amended the bill, we scrapped it completely. The bill is about past governors who are not in active service receiving pensions and other entitlements after serving for four years.

“They are paid by the state every month, so we had to repeal it. So, it no longer stands. When you are done with your tenure, just go home because nobody is paying you anything.

“We cannot have backlogs of pensioners who are not receiving payments and people in active service not being paid and past governors and their deputies are pocketing billions while the money is supposed to be for state development and payment of civil servants.”

Recall that Otti said he inherited backlogs of pensions and salaries being owed by retired and active civil servants in the state.

Another bill that was presented to the house was bill H.A.B 10 which is the ‘Bill for A Law to Establish the Abia State Cocoa Development and Marketing Board Bill 2024’.

The bill was sponsored by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Augustin Okezie passed for its first reading on the floor of the house.

The bill was successfully passed into law by the Assembly Members.

The State Assembly also considered the H.A.B 9, a ‘Bill for a Law to Establish Colleges of Nursing Sciences Owned by Faith-Based and Private Establishments in Abia State and for other related purposes.’

According to Hon Kalu, the bill which was sponsored by the Chief Whip of the house, Hon. Emeka Obioma (Umuahia South) passed for its second reading on the floor of the house.

He added, “The bill was committed to the House Committee on Health which was mandated to conduct a public hearing on the Bill and to revert to the house in a month for further legislative actions.”

Killing of Military Officers: Oborevwori cautions traditional rulers against shielding criminal suspects

Killing of Military Officers: Oborevwori cautions traditional rulers against shielding criminal suspects

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, cautioned traditional rulers in the state against shielding suspects involved in the killing of four military officers and thirteen soldiers in Okuama community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the warning when he addressed traditional rulers, on the unfortunate incident at the State Traditional Rulers’ Council Secretariat in Asaba.

The Governor who said that the act was alien to the state, described it as barbaric, inhumane and unacceptable and vowed that those who committed the evil act must be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said no kingdom should shield the perpetrators of the dastardly act, adding that Delta was governed within the tenets of the rule of law and human decency.

Oborevwori said; “On the 7th of February, we summoned the people of Okoloba and Okuoma communities in Bomadi and Ughelli South Local Government Areas including the members representing the two constituencies in the State House of Assembly, the Council Chairmen and their Presidents-General where we advised them that a lot has been happening in their area and they signed a peace accord.

“The killing of these Army Officers and soldiers came as a rude shock to us and when this thing happened, I immediately called the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Army Staff because I was in Abuja. I came back and issued a press statement.

“On Monday, I went to Bomadi to meet with all the security chiefs, where we had our security council meeting and I got briefings from the Brigade Commander. In attendance was the G.O.C 6 Division Nigeria Army, Maj Gen Jamil Abdussalam and the JTF Commander, Real Admiral John Okeke.

“After the meeting, I went to Abuja to meet with Mr. President to brief him on what happened. I also went to see the Chief of Army Staff to discuss with him. I also meet with the National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of Police.

“I felt that it is also proper that I brief you people even though you may be aware. Those people who committed that evil act must face the wrath of the law. No kingdom should shield those criminals because Delta state is governed by the tenets of the law and human decency.

“We cannot tolerate that. It has never happened in this state; to kill one Lt. Colonel, two Majors, one Captain and 13 Soldiers. We need to fish out those involved.

“Do not hide or shield anybody. The Chief of Army Staff and Mr. President have assured me that innocent people will not be victimised; unless you conive with the killers of the soldiers.

“I have briefed you and make sure that you fish them out from your kingdoms. If any traditional ruler shields a criminal, that traditional ruler is inviting trouble.

“We did not bargain for this evil act but for peace, I don’t want crisis. I have also received information that two other villages are boiling to fight, they should not fight, we want peace in all our communities.

“What are they fighting for? I have promised you people that I am going to do more for Deltans, so what are they fighting for? All of us are Deltans and we want development.

“For the first time almost two decades, we had peace in Warri in December and people celebrated in peace. Now we have communal crisis, why?

“I condemn it and it’s unacceptable. So please my dear royal fathers let us be on the same page to fish out these people. Don’t allow anybody who committed this evil act to come to your kingdoms and bring problem to your community.

“Tell us and we will hand them over to security agencies. You should not play politics with this. Don’t say that the Army have taken over your village because they cannot just come to your village without getting information. But I assure you people that no innocent person will be victimised.

“Tell your people not to encourage crisis because if you do, you cannot come out of it. Some people don’t have knowledge of what is happening and they start talking. What I did was to go and brief the Commander in Chief and later granted the State House Correspondents interview.”

Responding, Chairman Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo, (retd), said that they were on same page with the Governor to ensure peace and security in the state.

While saying that the security of various kingdoms would dovetail to the security of the state and the nation, he called for a judicial panel of enquiry to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the crisis.

In a related development, Governor Oborevwori also briefed the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council where he urged them to talk to the people on the need to maintain peace across state.

He said government would not allow trouble makers to dissuade investors from coming to invest in the state, adding that sustainable peace was needed to attract investors to the state.

Benedict Akwuegbu Fc Appears To Be The New Bride Of Plateau Football

Several grassroot clubs and academies exist on the highland of the Nigerian Plateau, but one is poised to take Nigerian football by storm.

Indeed one of the few local sides that will likely take Nigerian football by the scruff of the neck soonest is Benedict Akwuegbu football club, a side owned and financed by former Nigerian International, Benedict “The Austrian Bomber” Akwuegbu.

The team is the emerging force in grassroot football on the Jos high latitudinal topography. Having narrowly missed qualification to the Nigerian second tier national league to FC Rahbam, it has galvanized itself from that setback to forge ahead.

On Thursday, the 21st of March 2024, they will take on Propel FC of Mista Ali in the quarter final of the Plateau State federation cup at the new Jos stadium by 2pm with sight in the last four against Plateau united, just as they are also through to the last eight of the Plateau State Pre season soccer tournament involving lower national league sides in the state.

Benedict Akwuegbu, having benefitted immensely from grassroot football which brought him to national and international stardom is trying to give back to the society and profession that made him.

Akwuegbu started with Greater Tomorrow Academy (now Junior Elkanemi of Jos) in the mid eighties, he progressed to Mighty Jets international after been spotted by the late Sebastian “Sabara” Brodericks as he became the youngest member of the Scotland 89′ Under -17 World Cup Golden Eaglets team of Nigeria, then dubbed “The School Boy International” as a 14 year old Junior Secondary School 2 Student of St Murumba College Jos, a school famed for producing notable Nigerian internationals, like Segun Odegbami, Sam Garba Okoye, Mikel Obi, Sunday Mba, Obinna Nsofor, Patrick Mancha amongst others.

Akwuegbu took his craft to Europe and featured for Belgian side, Eentract Aalst, Austrian Wien, Karlsruhe and Bayer Leverkusen both of Germany, as well as playing for the Flying Eagles and Super Eagles of Nigeria, where he won an African Nations Cup Silver in 2000. Don’t be surprised when Benedict Akwuegbu FC stings its way to the top echelon of Nigerian football in the nearest future.

Mutu condemns killing of 16 soldiers in Okuama community , describes action as “barbaric, inhuman.”

Member of the House of Representatives, representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State, Hon. Nicholas Mutu has condemned Thursday March 14, 2024 killing of 16 soldiers by some irate youths of Okuama community , an Urhobo enclave in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

Mutu, who is the Chairman of the Gas Committee in the House, described the action as “barbaric and inhuman.”

Hon. Mutu, also doubles as the Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Caucus in the House of Representatives, made his position on the tragic incident known in a statement issued by his Media Office, Sunday March 17.

The federal lawmaker in the emotion- laden statement, said the killings of the 16 solders, including a Lt. Col, 2 Majors and one Captain of the Nigerian Army, on a peace keeping assignment in the Urhobo community was “senseless and embarrassing.”

Rep Mutu challenged all relevant security agencies to work round the clocks to fish out the killers and bring them to justice.

He warned that the criminals should not escape justice in order to serve as deterrent to those who may be planning to indulge in such heinous crime in the future.

He condoled the families of the fallen soldiers, the Nigerian Army as well as the Armed Forces on the tragic development. He prayed God to grant the repose of the souls of the gallant soldiers, who were gruesomely murdered while performing patriotic national assignments.

The lawmaker, however, frowned at distortion of facts of the incident in a section of the press, which linked the fate of the soldiers to Ijaw militias in Okoloba, an Ijaw community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta state.

“This is far from truth of the incident. The Ijaw is not in anyway linked or connected to this unjustifiable barbaric and inhuman and condemnable act.”

“The facts of the matter are with all appropriate security agencies and they are in fact in public domain. The indigenes of Okuama are responsible for these senseless killings. Two contigents of troops of Nigerian Army who were deployed separately on peace keeping mission in Okuama, particularly to investigate the killing of an Okoloba boy, were ambushed and wilfully murdered in cold-blood in Okuama.”

“Their headless and dismembered remains were recovered in the waters of Okuama Community , which is the scene of the crime.”

“It’s therefore callous and indiscretionary to link the Ijaw to this heinous crime, which is a national embarrassment. It’s wrong for a section of the press to link the innocent Ijaw people to this crime and I seize this medium to debunk such irresponsible reports on the incident.

“I condemn the reports linking the Ijaw with this crime and call on the authors of such falsehood to retract them and apologise to the Ijaw nation, forthwith.”

“I also wish to implore all relevant security agencies to ensure that no stone is left unturned to arrest these criminals and prosecute them to attone for the sins they have committed against humanity.”

“I console with the families of these fallen soldiers, Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces in general, over this tragic incident. May the Almighty God grant the repose of their souls, amen.”
