A strong advocate for good governance and social justice, Dr. Peretengboro Klintin Bibaikefie has expressed his disappointment over what he termed a recurrence of violence against students by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).This is coming on the heels of the unwarranted firing of live shots into the air and teargas at students whose only crime was to peacefully protest the extended delay in the disbursement of the 2019 DESOPADEC Bursery.

In his words; “We cannot continue to pay lip services to our love for education when government and her institutions at all levels only responds to education related matters as a last resort.

“One of us was short at and the Itsekiri Students’ President was axed in the head back in 2008, when we embarked on a similar protest over the delay to roll out the maiden version of the DESOPADEC Foreign Scholarship and Bursary Payment.

“We were forced to match to the governor office annex at Edjeba, to call for the desolation of the commission’s board, before the then Chairman, Chief Wellington Okrika budged, after Governor Uduaghan called him and his board to order.

“It is therefore very sad to hear that the same barbarism is still being perpetrated in this age and time.

“The leadership of the board must as a matter of urgency, rise to their responsibilities, apologize to the students for the delayed disbursement of the bursary and rash treatment netted out on them, pay all outstanding bursary and sundry payments, investigate who gave the order for the police to shoot and who was the policeman involved, and take necessary disciplinary actions.

As at today, a public statement on whether or not the commission is owing any such bursaries exists and what transpired on June 15, 2022 at their premises, is still being expected from the commission.

Re: Nscdc Poised To Publish The Names Of Perpetrators Of Crude Oil Theft, Pipeline Vandalism, Artisanal Refineries, Economic Sabotage

The attention of the Corps has been drawn to a publication in an online media where the writer erroneously wrote “military personnel” in a press statement credited to the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on the above subject.

The NSCDC, Delta State Command, is still in shock over the publication, which grossly misrepresented the original content of the press release issued by the Command PRO, dated 11th June, 2022 and wishes to seize this opportune moment to clarify without any equivocation that, there was nowhere the military was mentioned as part of those sponsoring, aiding and abetting crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, illegal refineries, illegal dealing in petroleum products and economic sabotage in the region.

Saddened by this misrepresentation of fact, the Delta State Commandant, Iskilu Akinsanya, expressed his concern and disappointment over the misguided writeup and therefore, distanced himself, the State Command or the Commandant General from the spurious report which did not in any way represent the views of the Delta State Command or that of the NSCDC top management at the National Headquarters, Abuja.

The Corps is a full fledged paramilitary agency of government which has over the years, maintained and sustained a robust relationship, synergy and effective collaboration with the military and the paramilitary agencies in the state and across the country, hence, will on no account be involved in any attempt to drag their integrity in the mud.

While expressing regret for any negative impact, the online publication, which is a figment of the writer’s imagination may have caused, the Corps wishes to once again assure the Nigerian military of its continuous respect and cooperation in any way it may be required in the cause of promoting National Security and the safety of Nigerians.

The online publisher acted in error and has since apologized for his mistakes.

Delta received over N1 trillion in seven years says Info Boss, Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the government has received over N1 trillion in the last seven years contrary to the figures bandied by Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege.

Aniagwu, who spoke yesterday at a briefing in Asaba, said Omo-Agege has displayed poor understanding of statistics and ability to analyse data.

He said: “I read somewhere, where he said we have received over N700 billion in the last seven years and that we couldn’t account for that, and I begin to wonder N700 billion as what? It shows that he does not understand how governance runs because the data that is available shows that we have received more than that.

“I say so because he thinks what we use to run government alone in a year is N100 billion, that’s our wage bill alone, the recurrent side of the budget is even far more than what he was mentioning.

“As a government, we have added value to the people of Delta, whether they live in the creeks or in the upland, so for Omo-Agege to say N700 billion is not accounted for, you begin to wonder whether he understands governance.

“I thought that as a member of the National Assembly he should be able to do some calculations because there has never been any year where we drew up a budget that is less than N360 billion”. Mr. Charles Aniagwu stated.
