Just In: Crisis looms in Alagbabiri Community, Ewu clan over signing of Shell/SPDC contract MOU

**Two rival community leaders claimed the right to sign

**Duly elected Community Chairman, Ejetavwo allegedly chased out of community, speaks from hiding

**Warned of dire consequences if Blue Star Oil & Gas goes ahead to sign MOU with one group and forgo the other

By: Ella Akpa, Ughelli

The authentic Chairman of Alagbabiri Community, Ewu Clan, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Comrade Ejetavwo Fredrick, has warned Blue Star Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, elders and the traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom His Royal Majesty Clement Ikoro, to shelved the planned signing of the MOU in the interest of justice, peace and well-being of the community.

In a voice note made available to newsmen, the embattled Chairman, Comrade Ejetavwo Fredrick maintained that going ahead with the signing of the MOU when there is a court injunction barring the rival community President General Comrade Phillips Emuobosa, from being recognised, will not only be a blatant contempt of Court but an ignoble desecration of the temple of justice.

The community chairman who narrated how he was harassed and chased away from the community by Comrade Emuobosa and his cult backed executives because of a planned Shell/ SPDC contract awarded to Blue Star Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited to executive some projects in the community, a project which is about to commence in the community warned that if the signing of the MOU goes ahead as planned with the rival community leader Comrade Philips Emuobosa, that he alleged was retrained by court injunction from parading himself as a community President General pending the determination of a suit he instituted against him ( Philips Emuobosa and his excos) he Comrade Ejetavwo Frederick) cannot guarantee that there would be peace in the community.

He said: ” I was duly elected. It was not me but the community that said they didn’t want the office of President General. When the tussle started I followed the course of justice through judicial process. There is a court injuction to that effect. Just because I was notified on the signing of the MOU, I was chased out of the community along with my executives, and they go ahead to destroyed my properties worth millions of naira. And despite my sue for peace they wrote a petition against me in zone 5 just to harassed me and chase me away from the said project. Please, for the interest of peace and justice, I appeal to all relevant authority, security agency, critical stakeholders and all peace loving people to wade into this matter, and invite all the parties involved for a round table discussion to resolve the issue amicably. I also want to appeal to Blue Star Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited to as a matter of compulsion, pend all necessary arrangement for the interest of justice and peace. I am also calling on relevant authority and the security agency to protect my life and that of excos, and our families. ”

It should be recalled that issue like this led to the brutal murder of some gallant soldiers who were on their way to maintained peace and it could be a dishonour to their souls if another crisis escalate from the area..

WUEDA Intensifies Ongoing De-Silting of Blocked Drains In Warri, Uvwie, Environs.

WUEDA Intensifies Ongoing De-Silting of Blocked Drains In Warri, Uvwie, Environs.

In continuation of its flood control efforts in its mandate areas, the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, WUEDA, has intensified the de-silting of blocked drains on many streets including Apala and Fani Kayode streets in Okumagba Layout of Warri, to open up the channels for free flow of rain water so as to avoid heavy flooding and its negative implications.

WUEDA’s engineers, led by Engr. Obruche Okeme who defied the heavy rains, were on ground to ensure that the de-silting exercise was thoroughly carried out towards achieving maximum results. The joints between gutters that were blocked by solid wastes and concrete were opened up, while entrances leading to residential premises and shops blocked with concrete, were all cleared to allow free flow of flood water.

Other areas being attended to include Ekpan towards the expressway, Ugborikoko and Refinery Road where WUEDA has embarked on an aggressive clean-up exercise by de-silting drains and evacuating the debris from the drainage channels, as well as sands and weeds from the sides and kerbs of the road.

Graders were used to scrape the sands and weeds from the road sides into waiting trucks; the weeds on the kerbs were also removed to give the road the face lift it deserved, in line with the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The WUEDA DG, Hon. Godwin Ejinyere and his team of engineers were on ground to supervise the ongoing massive clean-up exercise that has lasted for about a week now since the public holidays, promising to replicate same in other parts of the mandate areas of the Agency.

The Director General of WUEDA said the exercise was the Agency’s ongoing efforts at de-flooding all flood-prone parts of the Metropolis. He said he had earlier led the technical team of WUEDA to ascertain the flooding situation in many areas, and discovered that some drains were badly blocked by wastes dumped by careless residents.

Prince Ejinyere said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was fully prepared to take Warri, Effurun and their environs beyond their lost glories through the instrumentality of WUEDA, stressing that the Agency would not compromise on that mandate.

He disclosed the Agency’s plan to construct a storm water drainage channel from Apala Street through Peggy Hotel by Airport Road to link the Phase 3 of the Warri-Uvwie flood control project that had been awarded, to further de-flood the area.

Hon. Ejinyere urged residents of the area and other parts of the Oil City to watch over cleared drainages to ensure that nobody dropped wastes into them, to forestall repeated blocking of the drains.

He charged residents to support WUEDA’s flood control efforts by clearing the drains in front of their shops, houses, and offices, moreso, now that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, has declared a cholera state of emergency in parts of Nigeria. The Agency’s flood control effort in its mandate areas continues.

Ovie Omo-Agege: Like the Chichidodo

Ovie Omo-Agege: Like the Chichidodo

In Ayi Kwei Armah’s “The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born”, we come across a bird called Chichidodo. The interesting thing about it is that it hates excrement so much but it’s best food is the maggot which grows best in excreta.

Even when Chichidodo pollutes the air, it runs as if something else is pursuing it, forgetting that it cannot run away from itself.

The contradiction of the Chichidodo best describes the latest outburst of former Deputy Senate President and failed candidate of the APC in the Delta State Governorship election, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege.

Last week, his office issued a statement through one M.A. Egharhevwa, Esq, as published in Omo-Agege’s verified Facebook account, abusing the media aides of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Their offence: That some Deltans dared ask about the N80 billion which he reportedly claimed to have secured approval of, for the reconstruction of the Benin-Warri and Sapele-Abraka-Agbor highways.

Omo-Agege argued that it was wrong to query him about the money and the roads, especially the Sapele-Abraka-Agbor section, since the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, had explained, during an inspection visit, that the problem was that since 2014, when the FG awarded the contract, only N13 billion had been paid to the contractor, that the initial design by the FG was faulty, which accounted for the failure of the earlier construction, that the road needs to be redesigned with better features and that the cost of reconstruction is now very heavy for the FG to easily mobilise.

Agege therefore submitted that he has no questions to answer on the road, and those calling him out are unintelligent. However, that is only spinning the narrative to confuse the subject for which he is being called out.

First, he is of no concern to Governor Oborevwori’s media aides who are well aware that Deltans know him for who he is. Secondly, no one is after him. He is only being chased by his own shadow, his words coming back to find him, for as we know, the evil that men do lives after them.

How can Agege be agitated or angry that Deltans are calling him back to explain more about the N80 billion?
How could he have forgotten so soon how he claimed during the electioneering campaigns to have secured that approval of N80 billion for the reconstruction of the roads?

As widely reported by major national newspapers and online publications between 28 to 30 November, 2022, Agege made the claim at a campaign meeting with the Christian Council of Nigeria in Sapele.

The reports read: “This was disclosed by the Deputy President of the Senate and APC governorship candidate in Delta, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, during a meeting with members of the Christian Council of Nigeria which held in Sapele.”

The report quoted him as having explained that “…With the reconstitution of the NDDC board, Buhari ordered that N500 billion of the commission that was frozen be released for development projects and the sum of N80 billion was approved when he pleaded with the President to consider the Sapele-Benin road and the Amukpe-Agbor road.”

In fact, part of the report further quoted him as saying he hid the approval from the former Governor, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, ostensibly so that he would not take credit for the expected reconstruction of the road with the said approved fund.

Following Omo-Agege’s declarations, Deltans looked forward to action on the reconstruction of the roads, but it was not to be.

Rather the roads deteriorated the more and road users suffered greater hardship especially during that Yuletide season.

So far, the particularly difficult Ologbo section of the Benin-Warri road has been touched by the FG, while Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has almost completed the reconstruction of the Old Umutu-Abraka-Eku road to provide alternative route for Deltans and travellers on that axis, pending when the FG will conclude its planned redesign and mobilisation of funds for the reconstruction.

Given this situation, it is reasonable and justified for Deltans to re-interrogate Agege. It is valid now, as yesterday, and will still be valid tomorrow, to ask him what has happened to the N80 billion approval he claimed, why the fund was not and has not been applied to the road and where now is the money?

He has a responsibility of honour to answer these questions. No matter how he spins the narrative, he cannot discharge the onus by hiding behind the Minister of Works. That is like hiding one’s face behind one finger.

He cannot also keep pretending to be angry when his earlier claim about having secured N80 billion approval is played back to him. That will be acting like the Chichidodo.

The need for him to answer is even more now, especially with the revelation by the Minister about the difficulty in mobilizing the required fund to embark on proper reconstruction of the road, whereas Omo-Agege had reportedly told us about a certain N80 billion approval he secured from the then President.

On the other hand, if he only told empty lies then, merely to deceive the people to vote for him, he can as well still simply redeem himself by owning up to his lies, by coming plain to confess that he lied.

Deltans would not be surprised that he lied, just as they are not surprised that, as Deputy Senate President, he could not muster the political influence to get the major highway to his constituency done but only returned home to campaign with lies.

The only remaining thing is just also to unlearn certain habits of conduct and style because, for instance, as he should know by now, lies don’t last, no matter how deceptively postured.

NPFL: Abia Warriors Held By Doma United In Gombe

NPFL: Abia Warriors Held By Doma United In Gombe

Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia were held to a one-all draw at the Pantami Stadium Gombe in their last game of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season.

With an eye at the President Federation Cup final with EL-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in Lagos later this week, Abia Warriors bench made wholesale change from the team that featured in their last game as eight regular players were rested, but the boys from Umuahia still put up a good fight to avoid defeat in their return to Gombe within a space of two weeks.

Meme Okike who played as a central midfielder gave the Pride of Abia the lead in the 32nd minute of the game after he was allowed time and space to shoot from range.

Despite Doma United’s attempt to get an equalizer with a quick response, they were repelled by the Warriors rear guard of Jerry Ogu, Arinze Ogbonna, Francis Ignatius and Chuks Edward; goalkeeper Johnson Nmecha having little to do in the entire first period.

The second period started with Doma United coming all out in search of an equalizer, and their pressure paid off in the 47th minute when a moment of laxity on the part of Warriors allowed Jesam Emmanuel to curl an effort from the edge of the box that beat goalkeeper Johnson Nmecha.

The introduction of Godwin Udoh later on eased pressure on the Warriors as he combined well with Antoine Desouza and captain of the day, Emmanuel Onu to trouble the home side’s rear guard.

The game became a cagey affair there on, as both sides took a cautious approach, and the game ended all square at the end of the day.

Up next for Abia Warriors is a President Federation Cup final against El Kanemi Warriors on the 29th of June.
