Reconsider another Ijaw man if Fubara is impeached, RRM group urges Wike

The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to reconsider supporting another Ijaw man as governor if Siminialayi Fubara is impeached.

The group, in a statement signed by the Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, and Mrs. Sarima Akpata, Secretary, said that after conducting an in-depth study of the entire political situation, they stand 100% with the comments made by Minister Wike.

The group reiterated the minister’s comment, saying that when the law speaks, violence, threats, and unguarded statements cannot reverse the law.

The group also noted that if the governor of any state commits an impeachable offense, the House of Assembly of that state can commence the process of impeachment as enshrined in Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution.

Furthermore, the RRM pointed out that apart from Bayelsa State, the Ijaws cannot single-handedly produce a governor in states like Delta, Edo, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, or Rivers.

The group believes that Governor Fubara has committed several impeachable offenses, and if the Rivers State House of Assembly decides to initiate impeachment proceedings, Minister Wike should consider another Ijaw man as governor to complete the tenure of the Ijaws in Rivers State.

They claimed that the appeal is based on the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, considering the Ijaw people’s interest in the governorship position.

NBS: Inflation drops to 23.18%

NBS: Inflation drops to 23.18%

Nigeria’s Inflation dropped to 23.18% in February 2025, according to a report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The report said the inflation figure fell from the 24.48% recorded in January following the rebasing of Nigeria’s Consumer Price Index (CPI).

The update of the CPI made 2024 the base year for price increment instead of 2009 practised before.

“Looking at the movement, the February 2025 Headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 1.30% compared to the January 2025 Headline inflation rate. On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 8.52% lower than the rate recorded in February 2024 (31.70%).”

This shows that the Headline inflation rate (year-on-year basis) decreased in February 2025 compared to the same month in the preceding year (i.e., February 2024), though with a different base year, November 2009 = 100.

It added that Food inflation rate in February 2025 was 23.51% on a year-on-year basis, which is 14.41% lower compared to the rate recorded in February 2024 (37.92%).

It said the significant decline in the food inflation figure is technically due to the change in the base year.

“However, on a month-on-month basis, the Food inflation rate in February 2025 was 1.67%. Compared to the month of January 2025, there was an observed decline in the average prices of food items like Yam tuber, Potatoes, Soya beans, Flour of maize/cornmeal, Cassava, Bambara beans (Dried), etc.”

“The average annual rate of Food inflation for the twelve months ending February 2025 over the previous twelve-month average was 34.74%, which was 4.67% points higher compared with the average annual rate of change recorded in February 2024 (30.07%).”

Senator Nwoko Condemns Rising Trend of Defamation, Baseless Accusations

Senator Nwoko Condemns Rising Trend of Defamation, Baseless Accusations

By Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

The Senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko has strongly criticized the increasing trend of reckless defamation, unfounded accusations, and outright blackmail targeting political office holders under the guise of opposition politics.

Senator Nwoko’s remarks came in response to a recent incident involving one Mr. Chimezie, who falsely accused the senator of certificate forgery, embezzlement of public funds, and other malicious fabrications.

Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, Director of Communications in Senator Nwoko’s office, expressed deep concern over the disturbing trend, noting that despite repeated warnings, certain individuals continue to spread falsehoods and defamatory claims against the senator. She emphasized that Senator Nwoko, a renowned international legal practitioner and respected global figure, has built his reputation through decades of hard work, integrity, and dedicated service.

“It is unacceptable that anyone, hiding behind the anonymity of social media, would make baseless claims aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of the distinguished senator,” Okolugbo stated. She reiterated that such actions not only harm the individual targeted but also undermine the integrity of public discourse and democratic processes.

The rise in defamatory attacks against political figures has become a growing concern in Nigeria’s political landscape. These accusations, often propagated through social media, are frequently used as tools to discredit opponents and manipulate public opinion. In Senator Nwoko’s case, the false allegations by Mr. Chimezie highlight the need for stricter measures to curb the spread of misinformation and hold perpetrators accountable.

Senator Nwoko’s office has called for a more responsible approach to political criticism, urging individuals to base their claims on verifiable facts rather than resorting to character assassination. The senator’s team also emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards in public discourse to foster a healthier political environment.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s condemnation of defamation and baseless accusations underscores the need for accountability and integrity in political engagements. As false claims continue to proliferate, particularly on social media, it is crucial for stakeholders to promote truth and transparency. By addressing this issue, Nigeria can work towards a more respectful and constructive political culture that benefits both leaders and citizens alike.

Trending Video: Peter Obi Would Have Shown Compassion to Distressed NYSC Member Says Aisha as she critics Tinubu’s administration

By: Oluwadara Akingbohungbe

In a recent trending YouTube video around the social media a prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has addressed the troubling case of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who claimed to have received threats after criticizing the current administration.

Speaking passionately on her channel, Yesufu expressed concern over the young woman’s ordeal, describing her as “overwhelmed, distraught, tired—just simply tired.” The activist recounted how the corps member, in her frustration, referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “terrible president.”

“What’s even more ironic,” Yesufu noted, “is that she still called him president, even though Tinubu rigged his way into office. This is someone who is illegitimate, and here she is, giving him that title. And what did she receive in return for expressing her frustrations? Instead of compassion and care, all she got were threats.”

Aisha Yesufu addressed claims made by some individuals who argue that if Peter Obi had been sworn in as President, nothing would have changed.

Challenging this notion, Yesufu stated, “If Peter Obi was the one sworn in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and a citizen released a video like this lady did—literally crying for help, saying she’s tired—you know what? Peter Obi would have invited her to Aso Rock, sat down with her, and explained the things he’s doing. That, I can assure you.”

The activist went on to emphasize that under Obi’s leadership, the young woman would have received empathy and engagement, rather than the threats she reportedly received as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.

Okpe Leaders Petition Oborevwori, Delta Judiciary Over Orerokpe High Court Ruling

·**Say Orerokpe High Court Lacks Power To Interpret Judgement Of Federal High Court

**Chide Unscrupulous Elements

**Call Robert Onome Former President General

**Recall Orodje’s Role In The Lingering Crisis

Top leaders of the Okpe Nation on Monday called on the Delta State judiciary to wade into the Okpe Union matter to avoid a national embarrassment.

‘’The Orerokpe High Court is a court of Coordinate Jurisdiction with the Federal High Court and therefore lacks the powers to interpret the judgment of the Federal High Court. It is a trite position of Nigerian law that for matters and entities under the CAC which is a Federal Agency, the Federal High Court has exclusive jurisdiction and the State High Court totally lacks jurisdiction to entertain such matters’’.

They also called on all stake holders of the Okpe Nation, including the Governor of Delta State, who is a personality of Okpe extraction to take steps to end these distracting illegalities.

‘’It is unfortunate that some unscrupulous elements are making the Okpe Nation to have bad publicity throughout the country’’.

The notable Okpe leaders in a statement shortly after the emergency meeting of the Okpe Union National Executive Council (NEC) said the incontrovertible averments in the affidavit presented to the Federal High Court, Lagos, upon which the court based its judgement clearly stated that Okakuro Onome was a former President General and that Prof. Natufe was the President General of the Okpe Union which approached the court.

Entitled ‘’Okakuro Robert Onome should attend to Federal High Court contempt process instead of shopping for fora to save himself’’, the leaders said the National Executive Committee of the Okpe Union would appeal the Orerokpe High Court Ruling and file for a Stay of Execution even though the Okpe Union remains armed with the substantive judgement of the Federal High Court, Lagos and the Ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja which recognise the leadership of the Okpe Union, led by Prof. Natufe as the legitimate National Leadership of the Okpe Union.

‘’That having been served with Contempt Processes from the Federal High Court, Lagos, which gave the judgment that Okakuro Robert Onome seeks to benefit from, he should be honourable enough to enter appearance there to argue his case rather than Forum Shopping which amounts to an abuse of the court process. The contempt process against anyone who violates the orders contained in the substantive judgement of the Federal High Court, Lagos shall be pursued to its logical conclusion’’.

The statement signed by Prof. Igho Natufe, President General, Okpe Union (Worldwide) and Barrister Kingsley Ehensiri Akpederin, General Secretary, Okpe Union (Worldwide) shed light on the outcome of the application by Okakuro Robert Onome, former President General of the Okpe Union at the Delta State High Court, Orerokpe

The leaders called on all Okpe Union members, branches, and regions, to continue their work for the Okpe Union and the Okpe Nation.

‘’The current national leadership of the Okpe Union remains committed to reorganising the Union to achieve its potentials in the comity of Ethnic Nationalities as we prepare to celebrate the 95th founding anniversary of the Okpe Union in May, 2025’’.

On October 3, 2020, HRM Orhue I, Orodje of Okpe, purportedly dissolved the elected NEC of the Okpe Union which was then headed by Okakuro Robert Onome and imposed his own Interim National Executive led by one Prof. Emurobome Idolor. As Okakuro Onome had just then been appointed by the Orodje as the District Head of Ughoton District (which made him a sub-traditional ruler), he, rather than protecting the autonomy of the Okpe Union according to hi its Constitution, opted to publicly support the taking over of the administration of the Okpe Union by the palace and pledged to work with the Interim Executive that the Orodje had imposed. The Interim Executive in turn appointed Okakuro Onome as one of the trustees of the Okpe Union which they submitted to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Following the purported dissolution by the Orodje, members of NEC previously headed by Okakuro Onome before his abdication of office and betrayal, resolved to abide by the provisions of the Okpe Union Constitution by rejecting the attempt to take over the administration of the Union by the palace. Mr. Patrick Akpotor, the next in hierarchy, according to the Okpe Union Constitution, assumed the position of Acting President General and presided over the already fixed General Assembly of the Okpe Union which took place on November 14, 2020. The General Assembly, being the highest decision making organ of the Union resolved to reject the attempted take-over of the Okpe Union by the palace; directed the elected NEC to complete its tenure; set up an Electoral Committee to organise elections as soon as the tenure completes and also directed the NEC, headed by Mr. Akpotor, (who was Deputy to Okakuro Onome), to seek legal redress over the actions of the Orodje if mediation fails.

On May 15, 2021, a new NEC headed by Prof. Igho Natufe was elected at the expiration of the tenure of the NEC that the Orodje purportedly dissolved. Rather than recognising the new executive, the palace continued funding the imposed faction to undermine the newly elected leadership. As three different attempts to get the Orodje to understand that his interference in the administration of the Okpe Union was unlawful failed, the Prof. Natufe led NEC opted to implement the General Assembly resolution to seek legal redress at the Federal High Court, Lagos which gave judgment on January 19, 2023 in favour of the elected NEC. Incidentally, the illegal faction had surreptitiously procured a new certificate for the Okpe Union with a new Board of Trustees which included Okakuro Onome (the former President General that abdicated office). The illegal Interim Executive had also in anticipation of a loss in the Federal High Court case arranged a kangaroo election and handed over to another group headed by Okakuro Joseph Aboze. The Prof. Natufe led leadership promptly filed an application before the Federal High Court, Abuja, which the illegal group had approached to authorise the appointment of the trustees. The Abuja Court vacated the authorising order, nullified the Board of Trustees and directed the CAC to expunge their names (including Okakuro Onome), from the records of the CAC relating to the Okpe Union.

After the illegal faction represented by Prof. Emurobome Idolor led group and later Okakuro Joseph Aboze stepped aside in response to the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos and the ruling of the Federal High Court Abuja, Okakuro Onome declared himself President General describing himself as the beneficiary of the judgment of the Federal High Court, Lagos. He filed a case at the Delta State High Court, Orerokpe, asking the court to interpret the judgement of the Federal High Court, Lagos in his favour and claimed that six of the members of the current NEC led by Prof. Natufe are also part of his EXCO.

As a law-abiding organisation, the Okpe Union led by Prof. Natufe entered an appearance at the Orerokpe High Court. In response to Okakuro Onome parading himself as President General of the Okpe Union after his tenure had ended on November 16, 2020, and the tenure of the NEC after him is even nearing completion, the Prof. Natufe leadership got the process of Contempt of Court (Form 48) of the Federal High Court, Lagos, which gave the judgement over which he seeks interpretation, served on him so that he would be at the proper forum to argue that he is the beneficiary of the judgment. It is therefore shocking that the Delta State High Court, Orerokpe, has given a ruling on March 14, 2025, endorsing Okakuro Onome as President General.

OKPE UNION STATEMENT ON THE OREROKPE HIGH COURT RULING: OKAKURO ROBERT ONOME SHOULD ATTEND TO FEDERAL HIGH COURT CONTEMPT PROCESS INSTEAD OF SHOPPING FOR FORA TO SAVE HIMSELF

OKPE UNION STATEMENT ON THE OREROKPE HIGH COURT RULING: OKAKURO ROBERT ONOME SHOULD ATTEND TO FEDERAL HIGH COURT CONTEMPT PROCESS INSTEAD OF SHOPPING FOR FORA TO SAVE HIMSELF

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Okpe Union had an Emergency Meeting on March 15, 2025 to deliberate on the outcome of the application by Okakuro Robert Onome, former President General of the Okpe Union at the Delta State High Court, Orerokpe.

Background

On October 3, 2020, HRM Orhue I, Orodje of Okpe, purportedly dissolved the elected NEC of the Okpe Union which was then headed by Okakuro Robert Onome and imposed his own Interim National Executive led by one Prof. Emurobome Idolor. As Okakuro Onome had just then been appointed by the Orodje as the District Head of Ughoton District (which made him a sub-traditional ruler), he, rather than protecting the autonomy of the Okpe Union according to its Constitution, opted to publicly support the taking over of the administration of the Okpe Union by the palace and pledged to work with the Interim Executive that the Orodje had imposed.

In light of the above, the NEC of the Okpe Union, at its Emergency Meeting on March 15, 2025, reviewed the events at the Delta State High Court, Orerokpe and resolved as follows:

NEC Resolutions

1. That having been served with Contempt Processes from the Federal High Court, Lagos, which gave the judgment that Okakuro Robert Onome seeks to benefit from, he should be honourable enough to enter appearance there to argue his case rather than Forum Shopping which amounts to an abuse of the court process. The contempt process against anyone who violates the orders contained in the substantive judgement of the Federal High Court, Lagos shall be pursued to its logical conclusion.

2. That the Orerokpe High Court is a court of Coordinate Jurisdiction with the Federal High Court and therefore lacks the powers to interpret the judgment of the Federal High Court. We call on the Delta State judiciary to wade into the matter to avoid a national embarrassment. It is a trite position of Nigerian law that for matters and entities under the CAC which is a Federal Agency, the Federal High Court has exclusive jurisdiction and the State High Court totally lacks jurisdiction to entertain such matters.

3. The incontrovertible averments in the affidavit presented to the Federal High Court, Lagos, upon which the court based its judgement clearly stated that Okakuro Onome was a former President General and that Prof. Natufe was the President General of the NEC of the Okpe Union which approached the court.

4. NEC of the Okpe Union is to immediately appeal the Orerokpe High Court Ruling and file for a Stay of Execution even though the Okpe Union remains armed with the substantive judgement of the Federal High Court, Lagos and the Ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja which recognise the leadership of the Okpe Union, led by Prof. Natufe as the legitimate National Leadership of the Okpe Union.

5. That it is unfortunate that some unscrupulous elements are making the Okpe Nation to have bad publicity throughout the country. We therefore call on all stake holders of the Okpe Nation, including the Governor of Delta State, who is a personality of Okpe extraction to once and for all take steps to end these distracting illegalities.

6. NEC calls on all Okpe Union members, branches, and regions, to continue their work for the Okpe Union and the Okpe Nation. The current national leadership of the Okpe Union remains committed to reorganising the Union to achieve its potentials in the comity of Ethnic Nationalities as we prepare to celebrate the 95th founding anniversary of the Okpe Union in May, 2025. Let unity and love remain our guiding principles.

Ignore Reckless Propaganda Against PAP, TANTITA ,Others, Ex- Agitators notify International Community

Ex-Agitators of the Amnesty phase 1, 2 and 3 and some Concerned Niger Delta Youths have condemned the alleged reckless propaganda and lies being peddled within and outside Nigeria against authorities of the Presidential Amnesty Programme and Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited charged with the responsibility of protecting pipelines and combat oil theft in the Niger Delta region.

The Amnesty phase 1,2 and 3 and a concerned youth from the Niger Delta region alleged that certain groups in Nigeria and the United States have accused Chief Government Ekpemukpolo, (aka Tompolo), Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme Dr. (Chief) Dennis Brutu Otuaro and the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief (Engr.) Kestin E. Pondi and others of crime against humanity, kidnapping and misappropriation of funds which they dismissed.

According to them, the International communities should note that allegation of crime against humanity, kidnapping, corruption, misappropriation of funds and other malpractices claimed by the protesters are a figment of the imagination of them– Ebikabowei Victor, Boyloaf, Shoot at sight, and their co-travellers fuelled by hatred, jealousy and desperation.

The group said the operations of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has helped to boost oil production and revenue to the country, adding that the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the watch of Dr (Chief) Dennis Brutu Otuaro has given many youths in the Niger Delta region promising future through scholarships and worthy means of livelihood.

They called on the US, EU and United Nations to be wary of the activities of the leaders of the group, saying that they are out to disturb the prevailing peace in the Niger Delta Region

They said that; “Dr. Dennis Otuaro has been very impactful to the youths of the region and as Concerned Youths in Niger Delta, we are calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remain steadfast with the duo by giving them the needed support and encouragement in the form of increasing funding to achieve their mandates in line with the 8 point RENEWAL Hope Agenda”.

According to them also; “These desperate elements should refrain from what they are doing and seek peace. Right now, we need peace in the Niger Delta Region. Let Peace reign in our land. The peace we are enjoying today is because of Tompolo, it was because of Tompolo they called for amnesty and the Nigeria economy is stable now that is why most of them are fighting to terminate the job”.

Expand existing Universities to admit more students, Prof. Mainoma tells FG

By: Celestine Ukah

The former Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi, Prof. Mohammed Mainoma, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to expand and improve infrastructure in the universities in order to admit more intending students.

Prof. Mainoma, an academic, made this known this Sunday during AIT news hour, addressing Nigerian university education.

The university don, in the live interview, spoke about limited space for student applications into universities and also opposed the proliferation of new universities by the government instead of strengthening existing ones that can absorb double the number of admission seekers.
