Mr. Peter Omoh Dunia, alias Peter Black, has expressed gratitude to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for signing the 2025 Act, paving the way for the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) in Okerenkoko, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, describing the President as a visionary leader and High Chief (Dr) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo as beacon of hope of oil rich Niger Delta Region.

According to him, President Tinubu’s administration has demonstrated its devotion to the development of the Niger Delta Region, adding that the signing of the NMU 2025 Act is a significant step forward.

He also said that; “In the same vein, I also seize this opportunity to appreciate our “General Officer Commanding (GOC)”, High Chief Dr. Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, the Chairman/Chief Executive of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) for his instrumental role in ensuring the success of the institution. His provision of the initial infrastructure for the takeoff of the institution is commendable”.

Tompolo, he said, has been the ray of hope for the region, championing their demand for good governance inclusiveness, saying that;
“The people of the region shall continue to be grateful to him. Particularly, GOC’s contributions, and that of, Mr. President, in ensuring that NMU become legally operational are invaluable and will remain etched in our hearts”.

“Mr. President’s commitment to giving priority to matters concerning the Niger Delta is unalloyed. And as a loyal son of the region, I pledge my continued support for this administration. I am confident that Mr President’s leadership will continue to bring significant development to the region. NNPC Ltd, Partners Launch 97mmscf/d Capacity Five Mini-LNG Plants in Ajaokuta

**As FG Restates Commitment to Use Gas for Economic Growth, Development

In furtherance of its efforts to deepen domestic gas utilization, in line with the Federal Government’s Gas Revolution Agenda, the NNPC Ltd. and its partners have launched five mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, on Thursday.

The epic groundbreaking ceremony signaled the commencement of construction works on the five Mini-LNG plants namely: NNPC Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG and LNG Arete.

NNPC Ltd. has stake in three of the five mini-LNG plants (90% in Prime LNG, 50% in NGML/Gasnexus LNG and 10% in BUA LNG), while Highland LNG and LNG Arete are developed by other private companies. All in all, the plants have a combined capacity of 97 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscf/d).

This unprecedented partnership between NNPC Ltd. and private investors represent a strategic leap towards energy sufficiency, off-grid industrial support and carbon emission reduction in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, the GCEO of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari reaffirmed the company’s unwavering commitment to Federal Government’s gas-to-power aspirations, noting that natural gas holds the key to unlocking a bright and prosperous future for Nigeria, and a catalyst for industrialisation, job creation, and economic diversification.

He said the projects play a critical role in increasing access to energy for millions of Nigerians, providing job opportunities, promoting economic growth and contributing to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while creating opportunities for gas commercialisation and supporting the Federal Government’s flare down initiatives.

“These Mini LNG facilities will ensure the efficient transportation of gas over long distances, providing a cleaner and cheaper source of energy to households, mobility, industries, and businesses. This is particularly important for regions that currently lack access to gas pipeline infrastructure.” Kyari added.

He attributed the Company’s strides in upstream and gas infrastructure projects to the unwavering support of President Bola Tinubu in utilizing gas resources to fuel industrialisation, achieve energy security and foster economic growth and development.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, who described the development as an unprecedented feat in the history of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, said natural gas remains a veritable vehicle for accelerating Nigeria’s industrialisation, economic growth and prosperity.

Ekpo, who assured NNPC Ltd. and its partners of Federal Government’s support, stressed that the initiatives align with Government’s aspirations of harnessing Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for National economic development, reducing the Nation’s carbon footprint and enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.

In his remarks, Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for locating the 5 Mini-LNG plants in the State, describing it as a step forward in Nigeria’s march towards attaining energy security.

The Governor, who commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of NNPC Ltd. and its partners for finding Ajaokuta and Kogi State worthy of gas investments added that the plants will unlock ample opportunities in investment, including direct and indirect employment for the State’s teaming population.

According to a press statement released Thursday January 30, 2025, by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPC Ltd, stated that the Kogi  State Governor, assured of the government’s support for the project through manpower supply, provision of adequate security and host community collaboration at the projects’ various sites from commencement to completion.

Also speaking, Chairman, NNPC Ltd., Chief Pius Akinyelure said the milestone marks a significant advancement in Nigeria’s energy sector and aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, signaling a new era of sustainable energy, energy security, and industrial growth.

Why Shola AbdulRaheem Deserves an Invitation to the Super Eagles – The Era of “Too Young to Play” Is Over

Why Shola AbdulRaheem Deserves an Invitation to the Super Eagles – The Era of “Too Young to Play” Is Over

In recent years, the world of football has seen a shift in how national teams approach the inclusion of young players, with the focus now squarely on their talent and readiness rather than their age. One of the most notable examples of this change is Spain’s 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, who was called up to the national team despite his youth. This growing trend underscores a powerful message: age is no longer a barrier for young players who have proven their abilities on the pitch. In this context, Nigerian football should take a page out of this book and consider the inclusion of home-based talent like Shola AbdulRaheem in the Super Eagles.

Shola AbdulRaheem, the talented midfielder of Kwara United Football Club, is a product of the highly respected Abubakar Bukola Saraki Football Club (ABSF FC). AbdulRaheem has been a standout player in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), showcasing exceptional skills, vision, and maturity on the ball. Despite his impressive performances, he has yet to be called up to the Super Eagles, unlike young players such as Lamine Yamal, who have been given opportunities to shine for their national teams.

1. Shola AbdulRaheem’s Talent and Consistency

Shola AbdulRaheem’s performances for Kwara United have earned him recognition as one of the brightest young stars in the NPFL. His ability to control the midfield, break up opposition attacks, and launch offensive moves speaks to a level of maturity far beyond his years. Whether it’s his precise passing, intelligent positioning, or dribbling ability, AbdulRaheem has demonstrated that he can compete with the best.

His growth as a player has been remarkable, not just in terms of individual performances, but also in how he influences the flow of matches. AbdulRaheem has regularly been involved in key moments for Kwara United, and his all-around play makes him a potential asset for the Super Eagles. With his combination of technical ability, work ethic, and footballing intelligence, AbdulRaheem has shown he can more than handle the rigors of international competition.

2. The Age Barrier Should No Longer Apply

The era where players were considered “too young” for national team duty is fast fading in world football. The rise of young players like Lamine Yamal in Spain is a testament to this shift in thinking. Yamal, at just 16, has already received a call-up to the senior Spanish national team, and his inclusion has been met with enthusiasm due to his obvious potential and the quality he has already demonstrated at a professional level. This is a trend that should inspire the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to look closer at homegrown players like AbdulRaheem.

Shola AbdulRaheem has shown that his youth should not be seen as a disadvantage but as an asset. He has earned his place through his performances at the club level and has the qualities needed to contribute to the Super Eagles. His age, far from being a limiting factor, could be a sign of a bright future for Nigerian football.

3. A Call for the New Super Eagles Coach, Eric Chelle, to Look Inward

With the appointment of Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, there is a renewed sense of optimism surrounding the national team. Chelle has the opportunity to reshape the team and take it to new heights, but one key area he must address is the integration of young, homegrown players into the squad. By bringing in Shola AbdulRaheem, Chelle could unlock a fresh talent that could contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and beyond.

AbdulRaheem’s potential as a key player for Nigeria cannot be ignored. His ability to dominate the midfield and create chances for his teammates could provide a significant boost to the Super Eagles. The upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March present the perfect opportunity for Chelle to test AbdulRaheem’s abilities and assess how he could fit into the national team setup.

4. Building for the Future

One of the key challenges facing Nigerian football in recent years has been the lack of continuity and consistency in the Super Eagles. While the team has produced some exceptional talents, there has often been a reliance on older players, with young, home-based talents sometimes overlooked. However, this needs to change if Nigeria is to remain competitive on the international stage. Bringing in AbdulRaheem would signal a commitment to building for the future, not just focusing on the present.

By calling up AbdulRaheem, Nigeria would be investing in a player with the potential to become a central figure for years to come. His inclusion could also serve as a signal to other young players in the NPFL that there is a pathway to the Super Eagles, encouraging them to develop their skills domestically and stay committed to the Nigerian football system. AbdulRaheem could be the first of many home-based players to make the leap to the national team, creating a new generation of Super Eagles stars.

5. A Symbol of Change and Opportunity

In recent years, the focus of national teams around the world has shifted toward developing young players and giving them a chance to prove themselves at the highest level. This is especially important for African nations like Nigeria, where the domestic league has a wealth of untapped talent. Inviting Shola AbdulRaheem to the Super Eagles would be a step in the right direction for the NFF and could help inspire a new era of Nigerian football.

AbdulRaheem’s call-up would not just be a recognition of his talent, but also a symbol of change in Nigerian football. It would signal that the NFF is committed to embracing new ideas and looking at players who have the potential to make an impact on the international stage, regardless of their age or where they play.

A Future Super Eagles Star

Shola AbdulRaheem is a young, talented player with immense potential, and it’s time for the Nigerian Football Federation to look inward and allow him to represent his country. Just as Lamine Yamal has been given the chance to shine for Spain, AbdulRaheem deserves a chance to showcase his skills for the Super Eagles. With the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in March, new coach Eric Chelle has the perfect opportunity to test this young midfielder and see how he can contribute to Nigeria’s future success.

The era of “too young to play” is over. It’s time for Nigeria to embrace its homegrown talents, and Shola AbdulRaheem is ready to step up.

25 Years Ago: The Man Orji Uzor Kalu, What The Gen-Z Don’t Know About Him

25 Years Ago: The Man Orji Uzor Kalu, What The Gen-Z Don’t Know About Him.

By: Onyegbula Chijioke

There’s an adage in Igbo land that says, if you don’t know where the rain began to beat you, you won’t know where it stopped.

Currently the globe is in the information age where news whether true or false flies like the speed of light and people move with such information without verification. There’s this urge in vogue, where people rush to be the first to break the news not minding if it is verified or not, but the hunger to create content has become the order of the day, which is on a targeted mission of killing investigative journalism.

Those of us who are from Abia State, who grew up in Abia State when the former Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu was at the helm of affairs in the State from 1999-2007 have carefully reviewed, read and listened to a lot of lies and misinformation spread against this forerunner of a new Abia.

I have sat down to distil and synthesize some of these make believe stories erroneously told to this generation to disabuse their minds against this exceptionally good man called Orji Uzor Kalu and I have risen to give an unbiased account of what I witnessed and what other Abians enjoyed when Kalu called the shots in the State 25 years ago.

Apart from Sir Michael Okpara who was the former Premier Old Eastern Region, Kalu is the first and most celebrated initiator of the Free Education scheme in Abia State, where pupils and students who schooled in Abia State from Primary to University never paid a dime as school fees, courtesy of Kalu’s free education revolution. This encouraged many parents who couldn’t afford school fees to send their wards to school. I could remember how my father struggled to pay my school fees then, until Kalu came to his aid and other thousands of parents in Abia State who were relieved of this fundamental rights of formally educating their children.

Not just free education, I and many other students who schooled in Abia State from 1999-2007, were given free mathematics sets, textbooks, exercise books and other writing materials. Like that wasn’t enough, I went to school on a daily basis from Monday to Friday with a free coaster bus which consistently carried us from 7:00 am to 8:00 am and back to our houses from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at the close of school. These coaster buses carried pupils and students simultaneously across the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State. I and other students enjoyed those free rides and had massive fun. As a result of the free transportation, I and other students came to school early and also regularly. We looked forward to it and it improved our learning experience. This also meant a lot to our parents, because it exempted our parents from transportation fare of their wards and helped them channel the transportation bills to other items on their scale of preference.

While we were in school, Kalu didn’t leave school supervision to his subordinates, he painstakingly toured all the secondary schools in Abia State by himself, making sure all the infrastructural development were put in place, inspiring students that they could become anything they ever wanted to be if they put in the effort to make a difference. I remember vividly when he visited our school in Government College Umuahia, where he revealed he is an Old Boy of our school. I was greatly inspired by his speech and demure. After 25 years, this free education has metamorphosed to an army of responsible citizens in different strata of labour market in the society, who have become useful to themselves and families and are adding huge value to the GDP of Nigeria and other nations of the world as a result of Kalu’s foresight, ingenuity and tenacity of purpose.

Aware that agricultural activity and innovation is one of the ways to bring development, erase hunger and fight poverty, especially when it’s introduced to young students with sharp malleable minds, Kalu shared palm seedlings to all the Staff and students of all the primary and secondary schools across the 17 Local Government Area in Abia State. I was a beneficiary of this well thought out idea of former Governor Kalu. I got about three (3) palm seedlings like other students across the State. When I took mine home, my father took it to the village and planted it. Today, those palm seedlings have grown and they’re of tremendous economic value to my father. I know this is also the testimony of other students who nurtured and took good care of those palm seedlings given to us by Kalu.

Furthermore, Kalu as the Chief Security Officer of Abia State 25 years ago, maintained maximum security of lives and properties of citizens. Due to incessant bullying and harassment by the “Mafia group” in Aba, thinking out of the box, he introduced “Bakassi Boys” which helped bring peace and tranquility to Aba and Umuahia, the busy business hub of Abia State. Kalu also extended this idea to other southeast states like Anambra, who borrowed a leaf from Abia State to forestall the activities of gangsters in Onitsha, Nnewi, Akwa and other busy towns in Anambra. This singular formula of working with registered non-state actors worked wonders in suppressing the ugly head of insecurity in Abia and Anambra all thanks to Kalu’s doggedness and resilience.

Considering road construction, Kalu did exceedingly well when he was in charge in the State. So many urban and rural roads were constructed during his time as Governor. This I can testify to, because the road leading to my village in Nneato, Umunneochi was constructed by him from Leru junction down to Umuchukwu, boundary between Abia and Anambra State. The most important revelation about this news is that these roads that were constructed roughly 9125 days ago by Kalu are still available, efficient, strong and durable till tomorrow. This is to show they were constructed by the contractors maintaining global civil engineering standards without any compromise as supervised by former Governor Kalu. This particular road brought many developments to Umunneochi as a whole.

As a student in secondary school, I could hear our teachers discuss in the staff room about their welfare packages which were given to them as at when due. As a young boy, who was close to my Form Teacher, whenever I went to see her, I could hear she and her colleagues say they were never owed and their salaries were paid consistently on or before the 25th of every month. This was also the testimony of many civil servants who worked in the state. They were able to save and make plans for the future. They bought cars, lands and built houses due to proper and consistent payment of their monthly entitlements. They never went on strike not even for a day, as a result of the robust relationship Kalu’s led government had with the leadership of Abia State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress.

I am writing this to show as proof that indeed, Kalu impacted Abia State positively. Government is a continuous process by which those who succeed their predecessor, should carry on with the blueprint and aspirations of their predecessors and not jettison them just because the predecessor and successor are in different political parties.

To the Gen-Zs, Kalu who was Governor 300 months ago and who’s currently the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District is a wonderful personality, who keeps his words and was instrumental in elevating Abia State from the military rule to an enviable of heights of what democratic governance can offer. He laid the foundation of what we are enjoying today as a State and prosperity will always be kind to him for casting his name eternally in the hearts of Abians

LETTER OF GRATITUDE TO HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU GCFR, FOR SIGNING INTO LAW THE ACT ESTABLISHING THE NIGERIA MARITIME UNIVERSITY, OKERENKOKO, DELTA STATE

His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Aso Rock Villa,
Abuja.

DEAR MR. PRESIDENT, WE CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS HEART-WARMING GESTURE

I am writing on behalf of the good people of the Niger Delta, especially, His Magesty Pere Oboro- Gbaraun II, Aketekpe Agadagba, Council of Chiefs and proud citizens of the ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State,
to express our most profound gratitude and reverence, for your historic endorsement of the 2025 ACT, establishing the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State.

It gave full legal backing to the institution, a validation we can’t find enough words to express appreciation.

This magnanimous gesture, thus symbolizes your goodwill towards the region and the unwavering commitment to the advancement of learning and development of its people.

It is an act that came in the nick of time, when all hope was almost exhausted.

Thank you Mr. President, you touched base with us, with this act of courage.

The Nigeria Maritime University Okerenkoko, established in 2014, has been existence, but the absence of an enabling Act hindered its full operationalization and potentials.

For a decade, the institution functioned, but without full legal status. It was on a life support, gasping for desired breath to stay alive.

Therefore, your unexpected approval and signing of the Bill into law caught us unaware and brought with it a total feeling of euphoria.

Now, the ACT will provide the necessary legal framework for the university to thrive.

This milestone ratification will undoubtedly promote education not only amongst indigenes of the Niger Delta, but Nigeria in its entirety, bridging the knowledge gap in the nation’s maritime sector.

Nothing skips Mr. President’s constantly roving attention.
As you are aware, Ghana was the only country in the West African subregion with a Maritime University. As it is, your visionary stewardship has bridged this gap, and Nigeria is now poised to improve its capacity and manpower in the maritime sector.

The university will not only bring development to the oil and gas communities in the Niger Delta, but also curb the pervading youth restiveness in the region. It will create employment opportunities for our teeming youths, and others across the country.

The objectives of the university, as outlined in the Act, align with your administration’s commitment to encouraging the advancement of learning, developing and offering academic and professional programmes, and promoting research and innovation.

Mr. President, your signing of the Bill into law is indeed a testament to your friendship and dedication to the growth and development of the South/South zone .

Indeed, it authenticates and validates your mantra of RENEWED HOPE, for all Nigerians, no matter where they are domiciled.

I recalled that when you visited Oporoza, the ancestral headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, on Friday, November 25th, 2022, you made a pledge to our people to sign the Act establishing the university into law upon your election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This is promise made and promise fulfilled.

Once again, let me express our sincere appreciation for this landmark achievement.

Your leadership has rekindled enthusiasm amongst Niger Deltans.

It’s on this note that I also wish to congratulate and salute all of us in the South/South belt. Mr. President has done this for all of us. Let us continue to sustain the prevailing peace in our region and unite behind Mr. President in order to attract more development strides to our zone.

Our dear Iyelawei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, we are confident that your government will continue to prioritize the development of the Niger Delta.

Your Excellency, sir, you have in this regard engraved your name in the hearts of the citizens of the Niger Delta, through this decision.

Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem and unwavering support for your administration.

Yours sincerely,

2027: Why The Entire Abia is Begging Senator Orji Kalu To contest For Another Term- Bishop Eke

2027: Why The Entire Abia is Begging Senator Orji Kalu To contest For Another Term- Bishop Eke

**Says it’s a collective wish by all citizens of Abia

Abia-born cleric, Bishop Silas Eke, has attributed the overwhelming call for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to seek another term in 2027 to his exceptional performance as the lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Speaking with newsmen in Umuahia Saturday January 25, 2024, Bishop Eke noted that Kalu’s achievements have positively impacted all three senatorial districts in Abia State.

He stated: “If you visit Abia South Senatorial District, you will see the projects he attracted to Ariaria in Aba and its environs. In Abia Central, you’ll find his projects in Isialangwa and the hostels he built in Umuahia. In the Northern Senatorial District, which he represents, his projects are evident across Arochukwu, Ohafia, Bende, Isikwuato, and Umunneochi.

“Therefore, it is the collective wish of the entire state for him to return to the Senate in 2027. We are all appealing to him to run again and continue the good work he is doing across Abia. As a pastor who has been here for over 30 years, I can boldly say that until Kalu emerged in 2019, we never knew lawmakers could also construct roads, schools, health centres, and much more.

“He is currently renovating and constructing over 100 schools across Abia North Senatorial District, an unprecedented feat in the state’s history. Additionally, he has constructed over 70 rural roads, installed solar-powered streetlights in over 150 communities, distributed educational materials, and sponsored students on scholarships to South America. His numerous human development programs are simply remarkable.”

Bishop Eke also praised Kalu’s legacy as the former Executive Governor of Abia State, where he introduced free education for all.

He emphasised that the widespread support for Kalu’s re-election bid cuts across traditional rulers, town union leaders, university lecturers, medical professionals, teachers, lawyers, women, and youth leaders.

“You cannot have someone like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and not beg him to run again in 2027. Abia State is blessed to have him. We are proud of him because he is a huge asset, and we are confident he will heed our call by joining the race in 2027 as the consensus candidate for Abia North Senatorial District,” Bishop Eke concluded.
