The Executive Assistant to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Media and former Chairman of Delta State Council of NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor has said that the Government of Delta State is emotionally attached to the indigenous media platforms of the State, stating that they give it more visibility than any other segment of the media.
He made this assertion while addressing the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council during his visit as special guest to mark the 1st anniversary of Comrade Kenneth Orusi led Executive on Thursday 16th May, 2024.
Chiazor commended the Indigenous Journalists for their support to the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assuring them of highly rewarding benefits from the Government of the day.
According to the EA, “Nobody can tell the story of Delta better than the Journalists involved in community journalism. You have done very well given the peculiar and challenging environment we find ourselves today.
“It’s amazing that the social media is fast taking the shine of journalism from traditional media. But like I have always advised, it’s time Journalists fully took over the social media space.
“However, for better narrative, the Indigenous Journalists should occupy the social media space. These days politicians prefer to engage social media influencers for visibility, but you can do it better with professional understanding of journalism and proper information management.
“While I will never support any gagging tendency against the media, I will advise that you shun tokenism as trained purveyors of information. Instead, you should pride yourself in more valuable profit for your media activities and never allow anybody price you down.
“His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as Governor of Delta State, loves you and appreciates your enormous support and understanding to his government. He is a promise keeper and never an ungrateful person; he will reward you for your labour of love and sincerity of purpose towards his government”, Chiazor affirmed.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the chapel, Comrade Kenneth Orusi had appreciated Comrade Norbert Chiazor for coming to support his 1st Anniversary celebration, insisting that since the coming on board of Governor Oborevwori, Journalists especially from the chapel had given him maximum cooperation and support.
He therefore requested of the Media Aide to galvanise the Governor’s media team towards promoting the welfare interest of Journalists in the government of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
