Farmers Herders crisis: PIND, Koslivia Development Initiative Proffers solution in Edo
The incessant farmers Herders crisis that is always affecting communities in southern Nigeria have gotten a reasonable response as Partnership Initiative In the Niger Delta proffers solution to it.
The solution was proffered recently when Koslivia Development Initiative funded by the PIND Foundation carried out Peacebuilding intervention program focusing on how to mitigate conflict in Edo State, tagged mitigating herder-farmer conflict in Abumwenre 1 and 11 communities in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State.
Program which had its funding from PIND and was implemented by Koslivia Development Initiative, KODI, was successfully implemented as a groundbreaking project aimed at fostering peace and development by mitigating herder-farmer conflicts in Abrumwenre 1 and 11 communities, in Ovia North East Local Government Area, Edo State.
Executive Director of Koslivia Development Initiative KODI, Amb. Orugbo Ovuodo explained that the impactful initiative exemplifies how community-driven solutions can address deep-seated challenges, paving the way for a more harmonious Niger Delta with people living together in Unity.
Amb. Ovuodo stressed that since the Program was launched in November 2024, the project has focused on addressing the root causes of communal and herder-farmer conflicts in the select- affected communities and that the Key activities used included, Baseline Assessment, a comprehensive baseline study was conducted to understand the unique challenges, needs, and conflict triggers in Abrumwenre 1 and 11 and that the assessment informed the strategies deployed throughout the project.
According to Koslivia Development Initiative KODI, Executive Director, the project has significantly strengthened community capacity for conflict mitigation, enhanced stakeholder collaboration, and fostered a culture of peace in Abrumwenre 1 and 11. adding that It aligns with PIND’s overarching mission to promote peacebuilding and sustainable economic development across the Niger Delta.
The Program featured critical stakeholders consultative engagements including the elders from the two communities represented by Mr. Monday Mokpa, youth body women, herders as well as awareness creation through drama and music.
