Heartland Vs Kwara United: A battle for survival
By: Hameed Adio
The 2025 President Federation Cup Quarter finalists, Kwara United will tomorrow at the Dan Anyiam Stadium Owerri take on Heartland Football club. It’s a week 34 game in the 2024/2025 NPFL season which is fast approaching its final stages.
This encounter is a high stake one for both clubs. Yes indeed it’s an away experience for Kwara United who expectedly would face a huge home crowd rooting for their Imo State opponents who as we speak are fighting for survival, but the recent home and away encouraging performance of the Harmony boys would stand them in good stead.
It is more so with their recent morale booster quarter final ticket in the President Federation Cup from which the Owerri outfits have since crashed out. In addition, Kwara United presently placed 11th on NPFL log will seek to improve on their standing by seeking victory over Heartland of Owerri who as number 16 on the log are seriously romancing the relegation zone of the league that is fast coasting home to a finish.
Good enough, in one of his talks to the Kwara United players in a light work out in Benin before their departure to Owerri, Coach Tunde Sanni who once coached Heartland, admonished them to put their Federation Cup victory against Solution FC behind them, with a strong warning that Sunday’s league encounter with Heartland is a different ball game.(He knows the Owerri outfits inside out, upside down). I can’t agree less with the tactician who is on the verge of making history with the Afonja warriors. Let’s all support him, his coaching crew, the players and the management with our prayers. I just spoke with Coach Tunde now in Owerri and he confirmed to me that our boys are in high spirit. Since the league is gradually coming to an end and the boys are being separated from the men. And when the chips are finally down, it is my belief that our dear Kwara United will stand out to be counted amongst the men. Coach Sanni stated.
