A security expert and retired Nigeria Air Force officer, Flight Lt. Akiko El-Rasheed, says about seven terrorist groups are actively operating in the northern part of Nigeria.

Flight Lt. El-Rasheed stated this today during a live interview on the AIT Kaakaki morning show. He said the terrorists are receiving security intelligence from the main indigenous communities, making the federal troops’ operations difficult to flush them out.

The retired military officer, who was also a former officer at the United Nations, notes that the insurgency situation in Borno State is overwhelming because Governor Babagana Zulum is overstretched, fighting alone to address the situation.

Flight Lt. El-Rasheed, Rtd, expressed dismay over the federal government, federal lawmakers, and other political stakeholders for neglecting the people in the state at the hands of insurgents.

He stated that poverty, economic hardship, and lack of basic amenities are major factors fueling the insurgent activities in the country, especially in the northeast.

According to Flight Lt. El-Rasheed, Rtd, by November 2025, the issue of insurgent activities in the northeast will have persisted for 16 years. Yet, it is not yet defeated, calling on the federal government and those concerned to sustain the battle against terrorist activities.
