Rep Ereyitomi submits memorandum for creation of Warri State to National Assembly

The member Representing Warri Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Honourable Chief Dr. Thomas Ereyitomi has presented a memorandum for creation of Warri State to the National Assembly.
Chief Ereyitomi, while presenting the proposed Warri State creation memoranda drafted by the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILOT to the House Committee on House of Representatives Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution, said as member Representing Warri Federal Constituency he’s there to present demands of the people across board.
The memoranda explained the economic Viability of the Proposed Warri State in the following areas,: Oil and Gas according to it, the three Warri LGAs are the source of about 33% of Nigeriaâs total oil production, and over 78% of Delta State quantum. Warri, with Warri being the proposed headquarters of the State, is the mega metropolis of the present Delta State and contributes about 70% of its internally generated revenue. Other assets:
“Chevron Tank Farm at Escravos
The EGTL Projects in Escravos (all in Warri South West LGA), The Bonga, Okan and over 20 other oil fields, The Warri Refinery in Warri South LGA,
Chevron & Shell Field Offices in Warri & Escravos, Ogidigben proposed Export Processing Gas Zone”.
They added the three major sea Ports
in Warri, Koko and Escravos, and the last-named loads ocean-liners from its tank farm., Agriculture which includes
Fishing trawlers based within the proposed state for fishing, shrimping & crayfishing. As the industries hold great promises in the proposed state.
Other economic potentials of the Warri State proposed include the area of:
Tourism
The Nanna Living History Museum in Koko â the first of its
kind in this part of Africa â and the Royal Cemetery, Ijala in
Warri â a potential World Heritage Site â are the must-see
areas in the new state.
The draft also called for the recognition of the South West Zone,
Mid West into the constitution to be carved out of South-South Zone, to comprise of Edo and Delta States.
On local government creation it recommend further amendment of the constitution to allow for local government to be as third tier of government.
With the memoranda for creation of Warri State by ILOT submitted by Hon. Chief Ereyitomi the proposed number of states now up to 31 if approved by the National Assembly the total number of States in Nigeria will be 67.
