Higher salaries will lead to 70 percent job loss- Banwo
*Urges NLC to focus more on Nigerian Governors for payment of new minimum wage
A US based Nigerian lawyer and Author , Dr. Ope Banwo says if Nigeria federal government increases the wages of workers to more than 100 thousand Naira monthly that it will lead to increase in loss of jobs in the country.
Dr. Banwo made this declaration Friday June 7, 2024 in a programme Politics Tonight, ‘Labour’s Nationwide strike and other matters’, aired by TVC, he insisted that NLC should be careful while agitating for the new National minimum wage in order to check the inflation of goods and services in the country.
He charged NLC to focus more on the states governors on the payment of the new national minimum wage as they are the more problems of the Nigerian workers despite getting more money after subsidy removal but can’t give account to the huge allocation they get monthly from the federal.
He pointed out that the increase from 30 thousand Naira monthly to 60 thousand minimum wage monthly is already a Hundred percent increase, therefore ability to hover around 60 thousand and a little above is very okay for Labour.
Dr. Banwo challenge NLC to take their attention more to states in order to check what he described as massive corruption by the governors to allocations they receive from FAAC as well as their IGRs and how they expend it.
