A spill from OML30 Crude Trunk line, being operated by Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, HEOSL, has reportedly destroyed aquatic lives and other riverine economic activities at Egbokodo Community in Warri South Local Government Area. This Online Newspaper Editor in chief who was at the scene Friday April 28, gathered that the spill which started four days earlier, from a neighbouring community, has polluted the water line in Egbokodo and extended beyond the Itsekiri community, allegedly without any control by the management of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited.
Chairman of Egbokodo Community Trust, Hon. Austin Tete, who spoke exclusively to This Newspaper, stated that he will not allow Egbokodo indigenes and other residents of the community, to suffer the dangerous consequences of the spill, saying people of Egbokodo-Itsekiri do not engage in economic sabotage.
He tasked the management of HEOSL to immediately halt the spill, clean up the affected areas and compensate people of Egbokodo Community, in order for the smooth relationship between Egbokodo community and the company to continue.
Hon. Tete, declared that the community was ready to battle the management of HEOSL, if they don’t carry out immediate clean-up of the affected areas.
He called on the Delta State Government, security agencies and other relevant bodies, to prevail on Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, HEOSL to do the needful by providing relief materials, pay compensation to the community as well as stop the flow.
Youth Chairman of Egbokodo Community, Emmanuel Ofeoritse Adjisha, expressed dismay over the spill, disclosing that Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited have ascertained the point of spill.
Adjisha, who described HEOSL’s response as slow, said they were surprised to observe the spill in their community, claiming it occurred at Ugbokodo in Okpe Local Government Area, also of Delta State.
The Treasurer of Egbokodo Community Trust, Amorighoye Eric Afejuku, who spoke in the same vain, urged HEOSL to commence immediate clean-up of the entire area and provide relief materials to Egbokodo indigenes.
