A Tribute to My Beloved Sister, Mrs. Susan Caulker Irede

By: Dennis Otu

The sudden and painful passing of my immediate elder sister, Mrs. Susan Caulker Irede, has left an unfillable void in my life and the lives of our family. The news of her demise on Monday, March 24th, 2025, at about 1 am, shattered me terribly, and I’m still grappling with the reality of her departure.

Memories of a Lifetime

Susan was more than just a sibling; she was a guiding light, a confidante, and a pillar of strength. Her untimely departure has left me feeling lost and heartbroken, as if a part of me has been ripped away. We grew up together, and I thought we would grow old together, sharing laughter and tears, joys and sorrows.

Our last moments together were filled with warmth and love. We spent Monday, March 10th, 2025, cooking and eating together, discussing life’s intricacies, and cherishing each other’s company. Little did I know that it would be our last supper together. We spoke for the last time on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, and the next thing I knew was the news of her passing.

A Brief, But A Life Well-Lived

As I reflect on her life, I’m reminded of the wise words, “You lived your life like a candle in the wind.” My sister’s life was a testament to her resilience, courage, and determination. She faced life’s challenges head-on, never backing down, even when the winds of adversity howled around her.

The Pain of Loss

Her passing has left our 80 years old mother heartbroken, and our entire family is struggling to come to terms with the loss. The pain of her departure is still raw, and the grief feels overwhelming at times. However, as we navigate this dark period, we find solace in the memories of her love, kindness, and generosity.

Celebrating Her Life

We had dreams for the future, big plans, and a date to keep on Saturday, May 3rd, 2023. But now she has changed address to the other side. Though she’s gone, her memory will live on in our hearts, inspiring us to live life to the fullest, just as she did.

Rest in Peace, Dear Sister

Susan’s fight to stay alive was valiant, but fate had other plans. If medical help had arrived sooner, perhaps she might have survived the midnight heart attack that took her from us. The what-ifs will haunt us forever, but we take comfort in the knowledge that she’s no longer in pain.

As we say this hard goodbye to this incredible woman, born on Tuesday, October 22nd, 1962, and who took a bow on Monday, March 24th, 2025, we celebrate her life, her legacy, and the impact she had on everyone she touched.

Rest in peace, dear sister. Your love, laughter, and light will be deeply missed, but your memory will continue to guide us through the darkest of times.
