More talents to be  unearthed at Anambra 2nd  Sports Solution Initiative, ANSSI

Anambr State Director of Sports, Faith Okwonna revealed that more talents will be unearthed at the 2nd Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI).

Okwonna disclosed this during the volleyball event at the Ekwueme Square in Awka on Tuesday.

She expressed optimism that talents discovered in this year’s edition will win more laurels for the state at the 2024 National Youth Games in Delta state.

She said, “I want to thank the Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for investing in grassroots sports development. When His Excellency attended the first edition, he was impressed and directed that the ANSSI is going to be a yearly affair.

“We need the continuous support of Governor Soludo because most of the talents discovered last year made the state proud at the 2023 National Youth Games; that is why we are optimistic that talents identified this year will win medals for the state at the forthcoming National Youth Games in Delta State this September.

Okwonna applauded the participating schools from the various Local Government Areas for keying into the initiative of the Sports Commission in giving primary and secondary school students the opportunity to expose their talents.

She said, “This year, we have a lot of schools because of the level of awareness. The Anambra State Sports Commission partnered with the Ministry of Education in sensitising the various schools; the turnout is massive.

“I have been interacting with the various schools in Anambra state and informing them of the essence of sports in the life of the students. Some of them do not know that sports go with education; there are some students who are talented and denying them the opportunity to participate is equivalent to killing their talents.

“Despite the massive publicity within the state, few schools decided not to be a part of the ANSSI due to reasons known to them. It is a big problem faced by the school sports department but we are looking into it and I want to assure you that the third edition will be massive”.
