NWFL: Nasarawa Amazons defeats Remo Stars Ladies To Three Points In Lafia
Nasarawa Amazons began the second round of the NWFL with a win over visiting Remo Stars Ladies in Lafia.
The MD8 fixture saw Amazons dominate proceedings from the blast of the whistle as the duo of Ayatsea Hembafan and Akekeromowei Janet came close in the early stages.
Goalkeeper Charlotte Adjei of Remo was the busiest of both keepers with some stunning saves to keep the scoreline scoreless till the dying moments of the game when Remo Stars conceded a penalty.
Akudo Ogbonna was the culprit when she hacked down Akekeromowei Janet who was clear on goal down leaving the referee with no choice than to point to the spot.
Akekeromowei Janet stepped up and sent the fans at the Lafia City Stadium to rapture after converting from 12 yards as the goal ended Remo Stars Ladies invincibility in the league.
Reacting after the game, Christopher Danjuma revealed that despite the win, his wards still need to work more on their conversion rate.
“It’s a very sweet win because we are the team that has stopped the unbeaten run of Remo Stars Ladies, though our conversion rate did not truly reflect our dominance but we will keep working on it”.
“I knew it was going to be a tough match, the aim is to qualify for the super 6 so every match is for the take. It is important for Nasarawa Amazons to be there and we will stop at nothing to achieve that, he concluded”.
Goal scorer Akekeromowei Janet disclosed that despite the fact that the game was a tough duel, the zeal in the girls made the win possible.
“The game was a tough one but we put all our strength in the Coache’s tactics to get the desired result. We wanted goals, as many goals as possible but it never came as we expected so we took the last chance and won”.
Next stop for Nasarawa Amazons is a date with Dannaz Ladies of Lagos in one of MD9 as the march for a Super six (6) slot continues.
